"Callihan has a great talent for sexual tension and jaw-dropping plots that weave together brilliantly in the end." (Diana Gabaldon, New York Times best-selling author)

Great stories of great loves.

I just finished listening to the series for a second time. Kristen Callihan wrote a lovely series of books and Moira Quirk brought them to life. I thoroughly enjoyed them. Thank you.

Great series. What's with the cover art?

Any additional comments?

This was such a fun series, it weaves myth and magic into the Victorian era.
The author did her job!
The narrator was excellent.
The production and music were both great.
But OMG Hachette audio please think about your cover art or pay the graphic designer enough to care.
Why is there a whip? this harlequin image is so embarrassing to have on my phone. I guess it's slightly better than the last cover with the chains. But seriously the series is so much more clever than a 6 pack, it pains me.
I know that 90% of the paranormal romance books have covers this ridiculous, so maybe they think that's what we the listeners want to see,
It's not.

Fabulous End To Fantastic Series

This series was extremely enjoyable, kept my interest and investment in all the characters all the way through. Imaginative plot and character development but not so complex that I struggled to keep up with it. Steamy romance but it was part of the overall story, not the sole focus which can get boring in some novels. I wish the author would write more like this!

Tacked on detour with angels and demons

The Darkest London series is one of my favorite paranormal regency steampunk series. I absolutely loved books 1 (Firelight), 2 (Moonglow), and 5 (Evernight). Books 3, 4, and 6 were also solid. Sadly, this last book was merely okay for me, for a few reasons.

The upsides: I enjoyed spending a bit more time in this fantastical world. It was also nice to see some of the other series regulars make an appearance. And, there’s two couples whose romantic stories get told here: MCs Leila and Cyn, and supporting beings Augustus and Lena. I dug the fable-like mythos and supernatural backstories that drove the thwarted lovers theme.

The downsides: Whereas the other books offered monsters, magic, mystery and steampunk to go with the romance, this book only has romance and a narrow focus on angels and demons. Although there’s some recapping and world building, I still felt thrown into the middle of the story; I floundered a bit on the hows and whys, even having listened to some of the prior books earlier in the year. And those series regulars? Unfortunately, they have barely more than cameos in the final hours, making this more of a cruel tease for the supernatural steampunk monster mayhem that I craved. Finally, given the relative inexperience of both Leila and Cyn in the bedroom, the wicked get-togethers felt off.

I don’t regret my sale purchase, but I also feel like I could have passed on this and the series would have ended on a higher note. For listeners new to the series, I would recommend against starting here. This is not going to play well as a standalone. At minimum, I think you should read the prior book (Soulbound), where Cyn’s journey begins, and where the demon/angel vs. fae mythos really take wing.
