In the final novel in the scorching Red-Hot SEALs series, a desperate mother and a Navy SEAL fight fire with fire to protect their love and save the world…
Amy Chastain has made a lot of enemies - none so ruthless as the insanely powerful New Ruling Order (NRO). When they killed her husband, it was hell. Then they targeted her children by injecting them with a dangerous, experimental isotope. Now Amy trusts only one man to help her: the ex-commander of SEAL Team 7.
In the company of Navy SEALs, Jace “Mac” Mackenzie was in his physical element. Now he’s on the run from the same cabal that poisoned Amy’s children. That doesn’t stop him from launching a mission to bring down the NRO - and find an antidote. But the clock is ticking. And as the sparks fly between him and Amy, Mac realizes he has more to lose than ever before.
As Mac closes in on the NRO, he uncovers a plot that threatens more than Amy’s children. Now it’s a race against time to stop a global conspiracy, save the woman he loves, and protect the family that’s starting to feel like his.

Forged in Ember brought together Mac & Amy. The tension between the 2 started in book 1, but you didn't know if they would hug or strangle each other. But the bond they created was just the right bond for them. And who doesn't want to try to explore their feelings when your whole team is watching...
This is one of my favorite series and I can't wait to see what happens with the Shadow Mountain guys!
Thank you Trish for ending the story in the perfect ST7 fashion!
The ending that this group deserved..

I’m just disappointed that this was the last book. I feel there is still so much left hanging!
I’m hoping that the author will continue this storyline soon.
Thank you for your great work.

Luke Daniels did a stellar job narrating; I loved the diversity of his male voices especially. This was also more of a challenge than your typical narration, imo, due to the use of Arapaho words. I loved the inclusion of the Arapaho culture and language throughout much of the series storyline as I always like learning about other cultures, but I'm pretty hopeless with other languages. Taking advantage of the immersion reading with both the ebook and the audiobook meant I didn't have to try to mangle the Arapaho words on my own, lol.
As for the story itself, I love stories about military types like SEALs. As a fantasy lover, I also love when the stories mix in what I call mysticism--like when the guys have a sixth sense about danger--and there's more than little of that in this series. In fact, the author did a fantastic job with her world-building, creating a nice balance between the sometimes dark and gritty world of military operators and the more fantastic elements (if you liked the McClouds and Friends series by Shannon McKenna, I'd bet you'd like this as that series had a similar type of storytelling).
I've been waiting for Mac and Amy's story. Amy is so intelligent, and so strong in spite of everything that she's gone through, and I love the way Mac's gruffness doesn't put her off. Mac has been take-charge and sometimes abrasive in his quest to take care of his team; having been burned by the women in his life, he's a little bewildered by the way Amy gets under his skin and how she and her kids become part of those he protects. Watching these two characters grow and heal together added a great deal to the appeal of the story, as did Mac's relationships and banter with his team and Amy's relationships with her kids.
The plot and pacing were on point; the former had a twist near the end I absolutely did not see coming (though I probably should have) and that had me laughing with joy at the sheer perfection of it, while the later made for a can't put down read.
Characters, world-building, plot and pacing, this book had it all. This is definitely an author I'll be stalking...erm, following closely to get her next book, and I'll also be keeping an ear out for more audiobooks by this narrator. My understanding is that Aiden, Kait and Wolf's brother, is going to get a full-length standalone novel, and I'm desperately hoping to get Wolf's story (hint, hint) as well as more from the Shadow Mountain team in general. I can't wait! 5+ stars
A can't-miss conclusion to the series

This is Jace “Mac” MacKenzie and Amy Chastain’s story. The gruff Commander of the Seals is working with Amy to help save her boys when they find they have been injected with the isotope. Mac is falling in love with her. She is fighting the PTSD of her captivity and abuse, as well as her attraction to Mac. They have a tricky road to travel. Trish McCallan is one of my very favorite authors as I know I will get a well written and solid story. She also brings the heat with her characters and their chemistry. I listened to this on audio. Luke Daniels did the narrating and he did a wonderful job. Great job Trish! This is 5 stars.

Mac and Amy’s story was going to be a tough one. She was kidnapped, raped, her husband killed and her son was objected with a deadly virus. Mac hates relationships and doesn’t trust women. How can you weave a believable tale with so much hanging in the balance? Now add to that, the Seal team members are still trying to clear their name and figure out who is behind the aborted hijacking of the Hawaii flight and murder of agents and scientists. There was a lot to accomplish to pull it all off.
Amy and Mac’s story was good. I had issues with how she was handling her post traumatic stress. You felt the connection and the relationship was believable, but it seemed a bit rushed. At the same time, after the many life and death situations they were part of, they’d be the perfect people to understand about not wasting time.
The NRO story and why they wanted the plane down and what their plans were seemed a bit convoluted. Machines that can be powered by the mind..smart/ clean bombs, taking over the world..there was just too much happening. I didn’t feel connected to the storyline. In addition, there were some things left unfinished..like what happened with Jillian? Will Kate’s brother be pulled into the fold? Maybe there is a Shadowlands series coming.
Overall, lived the narration..didn’t completely love the story itself, but enjoyed the ending of the series.
A bit lackluster..
