About this listen

Forget everything you know about the world. Vampires exist, Werewolves exist, monsters hide in the shadows, and it's my job to make sure they obey our laws. My name is Evelyn, and I'm a gargoyle. The last one or so I thought. A team of Gargoyles have found me. And for the first time in over a century, I'm not the only one of my kind around, which is a good thing since demons are slipping into this world fully formed.

The bodies are piling up. Something is going on in my city, and it looks like I'm going to need the backup.

I absolutely love this story. But the female that narrates the book is awful. She sounds like the original Siri and it sounds like almost every sentence is ended in a question.

Wonderful story

...but Antony's voice for Zahur took some getting used to. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Love the story!

I really enjoyed the pace of this story as well as getting to know the multiple characters. however, while the female narrator did a wonderful job of allowing the story to come through in her narration, the male narrator put on voices that distracted me from listening to the story. There is another review that someone said that he made them think of Voldemort from Harry Potter and I could not agree more. Other than that, I am sincerely looking forward to the rest of this series and I will definitely be purchasing them.

Great story! Needs new male narrator...

Title says it all. Just listen and make your own judgement, its definitely worth the listen.

I really love strong female characters. Most the did a review said the same. The only thing is that she backed off all the time. Sure she was great in a fight, had more abilities then the males, but her character backed down when her male (Addy) told her to. I don't mean she should fight with him while on the mission but she could have said something like, I'm not made that way or the like.
This book could never stand alone. So don't start unless you are the type to go on to the next book. The storyline didn't come close to be satisfactory at the end. It just abruptly ended with Evelyn beaten up and passed out.
Love there were 2 readers, but I wished the male could read all male parts and the female all the female parts. Not just from the person's point of view.

Interesting beginning on a cliffhanger

I’ll be honest, I read this book on kindle when it first released. I love this author, and I love this series. The plot is unique and I enjoy the characters.

I have one complaint; I may be a bit of an audiophile like Lexie (per her definition). I can’t listen to the male actor’s voice for Zahur without hearing Voldemort from the HP movies.

Not a huge deal, because there’s not a ton from his POV, and I’m probably just a crazy person, but I struggled a bit with just that one thing.

Overall, I loved it!

Love this story - can’t wait for more!

I love Blt's writing and reading the books but both series (the veil diaries and book of stone) have narrators that I just can't get behind. I listened all the way through but I was tempted to stop because the voices were driving me nuts. The male and female narrators in this book used different voices for the characters. The male made Zahur sound like a crotchety old man. While the female narrator made him soundyoung and sophisticated. And there were some names and words that weren't pronounced correctly.

BL... try Nicole Poole!

Love the book, not so much the narrators

It has been several months since my initial attempt to listen to this book. I've managed to finish it this time, but is this series not being continued? This was released almost 2yrs ago....so is there more?

I never had an issue with the storyline itself, only the cringey narration. I do regret buying the Audible over the Kindle version, as the inconsistencies with character voices, between the narrators, makes the story sound funky & appear like 2 random narrators were chosen & their recordings edited together (without thought to check if they used the same accents, tone, inflections, etc. for each character).

So my initial feeling, against the narration, still holds true & has grown more cringey....so frustrating at the beginning but eventually the female narrator leveled her voice somewhat to make it manageable. But why didn't the narrators choose an accent & voice style for the men & stick with it??? They both use a different accent & tone that makes it frustrating. The male narrator gave a horrible accent to Z & his rendition of Eve's voice sounds like he didn't bother trying. IMHO, it feels like the narrators didn't do a collaboration together or they had no input / communication with each other....it's like someone decided to use 2 different narrator submissions in the hope of showing that this book took character development seriously; but no one bothered just finding narrators willing to collab to make the voices in synch or sound similar. Dual narration sounds & flows best to me when people stick to the characters they are most suited to narrate for & to not try to do other voices. Yeah, like an actual collaboration.
