Publisher's summary

Buy a franchise and secure your financial future, right?

There is a huge industry that is built upon you buying a franchise, paying a franchise fee and then working hard every day to keep the stream of royalties flowing. Franchisors, suppliers, distributors, franchise brokers, and others all have a vested interest in continuing the myth that opening a franchise is the easy path to success.

Over the years, I have worked for franchisors, helped franchisees try to sell their businesses, and worked with buyers trying to buy new and existing franchise locations. Inside you’ll find lots of stories of the situations and events that I’ve witnessed in my years as a business broker and consultant.

If you’re thinking of buying a franchise, there are dozens of guides which will help you choose the right one but very few guides that will show you the hazards. Before you invest and borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars to realize your small business dream, invest a few dollars and some time in learning what can go wrong.

Another super informative one from David

This book is great like all of David's material. There is very little fluff and everything is straight to the point. If owning a franchise is in the plans please do yourself a favor and read this.

Good Starting Point

I am looking into buying a franchise, and have listened to a few books on the topic and felt like this book is the best way to start the venture. It points out things you need to consider as you move forward.

Great overview

I'm looking into franchises and I think this book was a great piece of honest information. I'll be looking more into specific detail but I feel like I have a better understanding of the questions I'll be asking moving forward. This book is on the high level but useful.

If looking for a first look at Franchise purchase, this is your book.

I got this book because I wanted to learn the basics of Franchising. The author/narrator did a great job at sharing his experiences and cutting the hype behind Franchising. Really helped me have a better understanding behind the business model and to have realistic expectations if I decide to get into a franchise.

Great Book!

David does it again. This book should clear up any misunderstandings that you have about buying a franchise. He provides clarity and explains why the general public is sold on the idea of buying a franchise with the downside never or rarely being mentioned to them. David talks about the conflicts of interest amongst those in the industry who who want to sell you the fantasy of buying and running a franchise. He doesn’t tell you not to buy into them. He goes over the pros and cons that come with it and gives you an idea of the kind of person or circumstance in which it might be a better fit. After reading or listening to this book, you should come away with a clearer understanding of the variables involved and an understanding of the differences between buying a franchise and buying an existing business and be able to see where you fit in. If you are interested, I also purchased David’s audiobook, 21 Stupid Things etc etc and have left a praiseworthy review there as well. Franchise warnings was mentioned in that book but, to a much minor degree of course.
