A Very Good Performance of a Classic Novel

This audiobook was actually my first complete experience of this novel. I'd started it a couple of times, but it's very hard for me to read printed text, listening to prose is so much easier for me.

So anyway, the novel is very, very perfect. This edition, I think, is very well done. The narrator does a great job with all of the characters. Sometimes, especially in older novels, some of the female characters done by male narrators seem kind of put on, as do almost any character with any type of an accent.

But this narrator does a very, very good job. The different accents are bold and authentic and done with an air of meaning and authority that I really, really liked.

Jim Donaldson's speech patterns are also very clear and easy to understand.

I think he does a great job reading this classic novel, making it very enjoyable and very accessible.

Beautiful

A classic that should be read. A very insightful look at human nature. Both beautiful and horrible at the same time.

Truly a classic

The original Frankenstein, which is very different than most of the films, is clever, insightful and vibrant.

Not Hollywood's Frankenstein

Would you listen to Frankenstein again? Why?

Maybe. I very rarely repeat a book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Frankenstein?

Confrontation between The Monster & Frankenstein.

What about Jim Donaldson’s performance did you like?

He was enthusiastic.

If you could rename Frankenstein, what would you call it?

I wouldn't rename this classic. The name Frankenstein has become synonymous with The Monster.

Any additional comments?

Well worth your time to read all of the classics.

This is the best story I've ever heard.

I tried to listen to the other Frankenstein audiobook on here, the one with a fancy cover ( you know the one). That one was a little more expensive. It was god awfull. They gave the creature a sad melancholic voice.

In this version, the voices are spot on, and all the characters are brought to life. If you want to enjoy Frankenstein fully, get this version!

OK

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Sometimes I had to turn up the volume to hear the narrator.

Any additional comments?

It puts me to sleep after an hour or so. Not the easiest book to get through.

Not Bad, Not Professional

The reader of this book was not able to pronounce a number of simple words and location names, like "assuage," "indefatigable" and "Edinburgh." This was all right, but certain parts of the audio aren't mixed well, and they glitch and jump a little. It's not a huge problem, but this is not professional quality work--I don't advise paying this audiobook, which seems to be a pretty standard example of Audible's quality.
