Publisher's summary
One of acclaimed author Debbie Macomber’s classic novels, this is a tender story of two people daring to be more than “just friends.”
Lily Morrissey knows exactly what she wants in a husband: a big bank account. Not that she’s greedy or shallow; she just needs the security for herself and her beloved grandmother. But husband-hunting is harder than she expected, especially with her best friend Jake in the way. In fact, Jake - who would be perfect for her if he weren’t so committed to everything money can’t buy - is becoming downright distracting, with those jade eyes and that disarming grin.
All Jake wants is the freedom to sail his boat, write his stories, and live life on his own terms. Then his best friend tells him she’s going groom shopping. But Jake can’t imagine life without Lily or bear the thought of her in another man’s arms. How can a rootless guy living a no-strings existence and a woman looking for someone she can count on both get what they need? By letting their hearts choose love.
Praise for Debbie Macomber
“No one tugs at readers’ heartstrings quite as effectively as Macomber.” --Chicago Tribune
“The reigning queen of women’s fiction.” --The Sacramento Bee
“It’s impossible not to cheer for Macomber’s characters.... When it comes to creating a special place and memorable, honorable characters, nobody does it better than Macomber.” --BookPage

Story
A new beginning in charming Oceanside, Washington, is exactly what Hope Godwin needs after the death of her twin brother. There are plenty of distractions, like her cozy cottage with the slightly nosy landlords next door, and a brewing drama among her students at the local high school. Even having settled quickly into the community, Hope still feels something is still missing. That is, until her landlords convince her to volunteer at their animal shelter. There she meets Shadow, a rescue dog that everyone has given up on. But true to her name, Hope believes he’s worth saving.

Story
Two classic stories of finding love where you least expect it! Marriage Wanted: As far as Nash Davenport's concerned, marriage isn't shelter from the storm - it is the storm. He's a divorce attorney, himself divorced, who believes no married couple can live up to their wedding vows. My Hero: Would-be romance writer Bailey York has already failed twice at love. She thinks men are wonderful to read and write about, but that's it. Which is probably why she has such difficulty creating a hero for her novel. What she needs is a real-life example.

Back in their college days, Gretchen Wise had been engaged to a top law student. Carol Furness, head cheerleader, had said yes to the school’s football hero. And Maddie Cobain was the girl who’d fallen for a professor. Now the three of them gather around a popular fountain on the college grounds. This fountain was where lovers met, where promises were made...and broken. So it’s fitting that Gretchen, Carol and Maddie sit here to share their stories of betrayal and, yes, revenge.

Kate Logan is understandably devastated when her former fiancé marries someone else instead. The charming vacation house on the coast of Maine was meant to be a heavenly retreat for Danica Lindsay and her husband Blake, a place where they could mend the wounds of a strained and tired marriage. Instead, she finds herself mostly there alone while Blake's political star is rapidly rising back in Boston. Were it not for the companionship of her new neighbor, gentle and caring Michael Buchanan, Danica would surely be overcome by loneliness and despair.

Ruthless might as well be Gray Bennett’s middle name. When the renowned Washington, D.C. insider talks, powerful people listen. But Gray hasn’t come home to Saranac Lake to play politics. Or play at all. A tragedy has shaken the unshakable Gray Bennett to his hardened core. And so has the most unlikely of women. An enjoyable listen
I am enjoying Debbie Macomber's classics. They are great stories to listen to or read. I enjoy the characters and the interaction between them. I thought they were kind of comical when they didn't realize they had feelings for each other. It was obvious to everyone but them. I liked their chemistry and their friendship. I think that is important for people to be friends first, that's what solidified their relationship. It was delightful to listen to the narrator once again. I really do like listening to her read. I would recommend both the author and narrator to anyone who enjoys romance stories.

Awesome Story
I loved the story. Not love instantly. Not full of a lot of sex. Just a good romance about two people coming together.

Great Read
Friends- And Then Some: A Novel was a great read by Debbie Macomber. Lily is looking for a husband and wants him to have a big bank account. She wants to find security for herself and her grandmother. She has had a hard time finding love and it seems as though her best friend Jake gets in the way. She knows that Jake could be perfect for her but all he wants is the freedom of being on his boat. Jake doesn’t want to lose Lily or see her in another mans arms, but they don’t seem to be on the same page. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by Debbie Macomber.

Trite & Harmless Fluff
This was my first Debbie Macomber book, so I had no real expectations. The narrator did a reasonably good job. The storyline was rather pathetic with superficial characters. It passed the time, but I won’t buy another Macomber unless it’s on a remarkable sale. I gave it 2 stars overall (rather than 1) because at least it wasn’t full of vulgarity or gratuitously graphic sex scenes.
