Publisher's summary

One of acclaimed author Debbie Macomber’s classic novels, this is a tender story of two people daring to be more than “just friends.”

Lily Morrissey knows exactly what she wants in a husband: a big bank account. Not that she’s greedy or shallow; she just needs the security for herself and her beloved grandmother. But husband-hunting is harder than she expected, especially with her best friend Jake in the way. In fact, Jake - who would be perfect for her if he weren’t so committed to everything money can’t buy - is becoming downright distracting, with those jade eyes and that disarming grin.

All Jake wants is the freedom to sail his boat, write his stories, and live life on his own terms. Then his best friend tells him she’s going groom shopping. But Jake can’t imagine life without Lily or bear the thought of her in another man’s arms. How can a rootless guy living a no-strings existence and a woman looking for someone she can count on both get what they need? By letting their hearts choose love.

A lesson learned

The main characters have a tumultuous relationship while they explore what they want in life.

formulaic and only mildly entertaining. the main female character was a materialistic bitty and not very likeable. the main male character was clueless and juvenile.

An enjoyable listen

I am enjoying Debbie Macomber's classics. They are great stories to listen to or read. I enjoy the characters and the interaction between them. I thought they were kind of comical when they didn't realize they had feelings for each other. It was obvious to everyone but them. I liked their chemistry and their friendship. I think that is important for people to be friends first, that's what solidified their relationship. It was delightful to listen to the narrator once again. I really do like listening to her read. I would recommend both the author and narrator to anyone who enjoys romance stories.

Awesome Story

I loved the story. Not love instantly. Not full of a lot of sex. Just a good romance about two people coming together.

Great Read

Friends- And Then Some: A Novel was a great read by Debbie Macomber. Lily is looking for a husband and wants him to have a big bank account. She wants to find security for herself and her grandmother. She has had a hard time finding love and it seems as though her best friend Jake gets in the way. She knows that Jake could be perfect for her but all he wants is the freedom of being on his boat. Jake doesn’t want to lose Lily or see her in another mans arms, but they don’t seem to be on the same page. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by Debbie Macomber.

Trite & Harmless Fluff

This was my first Debbie Macomber book, so I had no real expectations. The narrator did a reasonably good job. The storyline was rather pathetic with superficial characters. It passed the time, but I won’t buy another Macomber unless it’s on a remarkable sale. I gave it 2 stars overall (rather than 1) because at least it wasn’t full of vulgarity or gratuitously graphic sex scenes.
