About this listen

On the worst birthday of my life, I come home to find my boyfriend in bed with another woman. Within hours, I’m drunk, homeless, and pledging to stay single forever. And that is when the dangerously sexy Seelie King rolls through town, looking for fae like me.

Every generation, the king holds a competition for Seelie queen. But for reasons he won’t explain, Torin is looking for a charade, not a real marriage. So when I drunkenly sling insults his way, I have his attention.

When Torin offers me fifty million to participate, I think, “What have I got to lose?” The answer turns out to be “my life,” because my competition will literally kill for the crown.

And the more time I spend with the seductive king, the harder it becomes to remember it’s all supposed to be fake. Now, my life—and my heart—are on the line.

Performed by Taylor Coan, Alex Hill-Knight, Nazia Chaudhry, Stephanie Németh-Parker, John Kielty, Karen Novack, Jenna Sharpe, Yasmin Tuazon, Scott McCormick, Kay Eluvian, Nanette Savard, Zeke Alton, Nora Achrati, Khaya Fraites, K’Lai Rivera, Ken Jackson, Holly Adams and Eric Messner.

the plot isn't that good and wasnt developed thoroughly, very cliche and predictable (I literally knew what words the characters were going to say next...), the writing isn't that good.
the production of the dramatized version is... so-so, some of it is cringy (breathing, sniffing, moaning but not it the way that is appealing to say the least... and I listened to some amazing dramatized productions).

very disappointing

Good story line; kind of predictable. But who picked the elevator background music during romantic scenes? It ruined the vibe. Also the growling… was weird. It sounded off.

Good story

10/10!! I absolutely devoured this book and I can’t wait to dive into book 2 next! The plot was gripping! The characters were compelling! The full cast of narrators made this listening experience absolutely memorable!

Give this book a try!

Nothing new. I didn’t mind her as snarky and drunk in her heartache. I rolled my eyes at another competition for the King’s hand, but I persevered. Still at the end of this book all we’ve had is generic court intrigue, sooo much banter, the plucky best friend, the spice level is -2, and I just don’t care what happens to them. I kept waiting for Ava to grow up. To realize that she belonged and find her power. Instead we got, “even though I might die, I’m not giving up $5million dollars. Not willing to sit through the next one.

Childish

Parts of this recorded version were a little rough to get through…. A little cringy especially the spicy scenes BUT if you can wrinkle your nose through it, I did really enjoy the story. I’m debating switching to book for to finish the series though.

Good story line….

Overall, it was entertaining enough, but the story is not great and nothing is unpredictable.

Story was dual and cringingly bad

I am over halfway through, and I don’t know if I can finish this audiobook. The story is decent, and the concept is good, but as an Irish person, the faked Irish accents ruin the whole recording. There are so many Irish voice actors, including from the West of Ireland (where the stereotypical Irish accent comes from) who could have voiced those characters, but the fake lilt is jarring and ruins every scene they feature in. Not only does it not sound like an actual accent, it sounds like the voice we would put on for an old crone, not a princess.

The Irish accents are insulting

I almost stopped listening because the story moved very slow in the beginning but I decided to push forward with it and it finally reached a climax in the story. ending is very good I had to get book two right away

slow start but gets very good

The dramatization is the ONLY way I want to read books now a days. Give this book a try- worth it! I’m super excited for the next one.

Genuinely interesting and a great easy read.

Not really sure that's the right heading I would like to go with, but... anyway...

Loved it! A nice refreshing new world. I loved the chemistry between these two, the slow build-up and frustrating no relief for these two. I love the lead into the other book. only towards the end did it dawn on me about FMC. I would have loved to hear a little more about her friend, but it was enough to not have to wonder what happened to her. This, I think, was awesome. Most of the times the side character gets forgotten, but that was covered just enough. loved the dramatization, although there were sometimes were it was just too much. the love scenes were over the top in some areas. There is a fine line between desperate make-out and what a virgin mind thinks a make-out should sound like. I just kept thinking they were practicing how to kiss on the back of their hand at a preteen sleepover. With all that, it didn't take away from the fact that it was a good book. thank you all for the beautiful art you made.
