About this listen

What would you do if you were given a second chance?

Titus Briggs is an Earth Defense soldier, a grunt, a decorated war hero—it's all he's ever known. So when a career-ending injury leaves him lying in a hospital bed, missing both legs, he struggles to accept his new reality. He can no longer walk, which means he can no longer fight.

That is until a mysterious colonel arrives and offers Titus the opportunity to step into a new kind of war, a new kind of fight. To become a new kind of soldier.

Mobile Combat Suits—MOCOMS—represent the next stage in human warfare. They enable soldiers to fight like never before. Stronger. Faster. Bristling with weaponry. Far more lethal.

Even a disabled veteran like Titus can operate one… if he can find the heart, grit, and determination needed to pass selection.

Now, with the end of humanity upon him, Titus must become the Able Bodied Soldier.

Surprised and now frustrated

I have listened to a number of books by Jason Anspach, and J.N. Chaney, and generally have enjoyed them. R. C. Bray is arguably my favorite narrator. When I bought this look, it was clear that it was a start of a new series. I dislike committing to any series. That having been said, I found this book probably the best of this genre that I have listened to in a very long time. It is never boring. There is a lot of action. While it does not take a genius where the direction of the second book might go, I am now frustrated because I have no idea when that will come out.

If you like military stories set in the future that are well written and narrated by a 5 star narrator, I believe you will like this book.

Really good story!

Loved the military lingo. Narration performance was perfect for a harden military soldier and good transition between male characters. Female characters is so so but narrator did the best he could without using a female narrator.

Best new series of 2024

Sometimes author collabs don't work. This one 💯 did. Military realism matched with great storytelling and a hero you can cheer for makes for a great ride. And, of course, you can't forget that it's read by the best narrator alive right now. Worth paying the cash price let alone a credit. if this sounds like anything at all in your genre of interest... get it!

tight well written story

first make a smart revision of Avatar, i never could get past faster than light travel but they can not fix a Marine’s legs. Well written and tight story, good character development and logical use of Mechs in combat

A exciting story and finally a great mech story.

Even if you don't like mech type of story.. don't worry. This story will pull you in and RC Bray knocks it out of the park. I pray there is more to come. I love this series and its characters already. If you are a fan of classic RC Bray.... you will be at home because Anspach and Chaney really bring the story together in this book. Looking forward to part 2.

Great story with even better character design/development

I honestly love the story. The characters have amazing story development and show growth in ways that are actually reasonable. I am excited and sad i have to wait for the next book.
