About this listen

In the dead of night, a decrepit, unmarked motor yacht drifts into the medieval port of Vernazza, Italy.

The run-down vessel forms a jarring contrast to the pastel colored tower homes and terraced vineyards surrounding the natural harbor along the coast of Cinque Terra.

Less than 50 yards away, a man wakes up on board a small rowboat, covered in blood.

Lying next to him is a woman with two - execution style - bullet holes to her forehead.

In his right hand he holds a small suitcase. Tucked into his pocket is a Russian built Makarov semiautomatic handgun with two rounds missing.

The man asks himself one question: Who am I?

A Different Sam Reilly

This is a different Sam Reilly story than previous ones, in a good way. I have thoroughly enjoyed the excellent writings of Christopher Cartwright. Sam Reilly is one of my all-time favorite characters. Generally there's a lot of history to go with the stories but this one not so much. There's plenty of action, adventure, twists and turns, suspense, mystery and murder. Oh, and amnesia! Put all that together and you have a really great listen! The narration was superbly done by David Gilmore. He really helps to bring the story to life and immerse the listener into Sam's world and adventure. Each character gets their own voices and emotions. Awesome listen!!

Great listen!

I'm so glad this was my first Sam Reilly book! Since I did not know his story, I was just as in the dark as Sam was as he tried to figure out who he was. I don't think I would have enjoyed it nearly as much had I known the real deal.

This was such a fantastic listen. You feel the kinetic energy of Sam as he tries to figure out who he is and who he can trust. There were some crazy car chases and some even crazier rescues. I loved it!

I liked the narration too.

KEEP EM COMING!

I love this series! I'm glad the author continues to stay with the same narrator (David Gilmore). The author always do a good job with the characters. I hope this series never end and look forward to reading the next book. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another great Sam Reilly adventure

Ghost Ship. Another well written adventure story, which is what I expect from the author. Though it is different from previous books in the series. Narration is as always excellent.
Great entertainment and a real page turner.

So enjoyable, a very good suspense read

The Ghost Ship, my seventeenth read from author Christopher Cartwright & the seventeenth book in the highly entertaining Sam Reilly series. A well-written rollicking thriller with captivating & well-developed main characters, probably the best in the series to date. Reminds me of the writings of Steve Berry, Dan Brown & James Rollins with shades of Jason Bourne in this book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

The Best Sam Reilly Yet!

Who am I and how did I get here?
As a fan of Sam Reilly, this is by far the best novel to date. Amnesia, action, uncertainty, and betrayal make for a very gripping and suspenseful journey. Although each novel stands alone, this one stands out from all the rest and could be a great launching point if you have not read any others in the series. This novel is a slight departure from the previous novels with less history but much more action and suspense. A worthy read and addition to any collection. As usual, David Gilmore gives a solid performance as he breathes each character to life.

Number 17 With A Bullet

The 17th and one of the best of the Sam Reilly series. Sam wakes up in a boat, covered in blood, next to a dead woman. Sam doesn't know who he is or who the woman is or what's going on. He finds he has a Russian gun with two bullets shot. The one thing he does know is he'd better get the hell out of there quickly or he's dead!

This was really intriguing as Sam tries to figure out who he is, as he gets flashes of memory back slowly. A woman who knows him helps him to find Tom and the rest of his crew, but of course he does not remember any of them. This gave a new and interesting take on Sam. He acted differently than normal because of the amnesia. Tom and the rest help him discover the truth.

This time there is more action than history, so this is very different for the series, but made for a great listen!

Almost entirely different from the others

I have now finished the first 17 books in the series, and this one, Ghost Ship, is almost but not quite entirely different from any of the others. In this book, Sam is essentially on his own, so you get a chance to see how he gets into and out of trouble when he has nobody to lean on. I really enjoyed the action, but I felt that there was a lot going on behind the scenes...substantial back story that is just hinted at. There are even two women that seem to both have been The Love of Sam's Life...all introduced and glossed over The setup seemed to work this once, but I would not want this as a regular things. I like the friends and the teamwork that usually make up a Sam Reilly book.
