About this listen

"Rule number one: Run from the Shadows. Unless one knows the secret that will save you."

I live in a world of waifs and shadows. "Live" might be an overstatement. I scrounge and scramble and survive in an atmosphere made thick and gray by the ashes of the Fallen. And sometimes I dream of sunlight. My parents were taken, even though they followed all the rules. Never scavenge at night. Never talk to Shadows. Don't fight the Sweepers. Run. Run. Run.

Now that they've taken my little brother, Douglas, I've realized I've only been surviving for him. I have two choices: Follow him or lie down and die. I can't just quit after years of struggle. I wouldn't know how if I tried. Determination is all I have left.

And then I meet "him".

He claims to be a rogue who can help me find my brother. It's got to be a lie. But I don t run. I stop. I listen. And I make a deal with a Shadow even though I know it will mean the death of me.

"Never talk to Shadows."

But no one ever told me what would happen if I kissed one.

Sci-fi

Of you love a sci-fi that is a bit out there, then you may enjoy this short book. Violet does an outstanding job with the narrative, and keeps the story going. At times I found the book a little hard to follow, but they do get their HEA in the end. The heroine is excellent, she's not too skittish and not too brazen. I really enjoyed her character.

Not so good

I tried to listen to the whole book, it’s short. After about hour my mind started drifting and I decided to just go to the last chapter and see how it ended( couldn’t finish it either) , so went to the epilogue to see how it ended, just a waste of time . Do your self a favor and find something else to listen to.

Horror Romance

This title has too many mature themes for young adult but it reads like one. It's not bad but the romance, drama, and speed reflect a young adult novel which isn't to my taste but I think the overall story and the haunting world-building is worth overlooking that.

Different

This story is set in an Apocalyptic world ran by a soul eating machine where the main character is a disruptive force. She loses her brother and is helped by a love interest. It’s strange and different - written in a poetic way.

Very Unique

A very unique story that kept me enthralled as I worked today. The world building was really unique and the narration was good enough that I didn’t immediately stop it.

could not finish

the story was very tell instead of show. the main character was not relatable and the narrator's interpretation made it worse. #Bubblegumpopsyfy

I would recommend this one

I thought this was written and well performed. The ending did feel rushed and the interchange between characters thoughts were a little confusing but in general I enjoyed it.
