About this listen

Hiro

Seeing the dead has never been easy, but the last thing I expected was to be a pawn in a serial killer’s game.

Moving in with Maddox was supposed to be the only thing we needed to worry about. Not a dead teacher, and not the fact that a serial killer knows my abilities. Following the trail left behind leaves us racing against time to figure out how to stop the murders before the final victim falls. Thankfully, I’m not alone. Maddox and my wonderful team of unusual ghosts are there to make sure that we don’t end up players in this twisted game.

Maddox

Nothing is drawn to Hiro like danger and ghosts, and this time, he’s managed to find himself tangled in both. Suddenly I find myself caught between protecting Hiro and saving the lives of those who are next on a deadly list. The killer’s mistake is that he doesn’t realize just how far Hiro and I will go, and that we’re going to end this game before the final pawn falls.

good story, uneven sound

Really fun story. And Greg Boudreaux is excellent as usual. The only downside is that the sound is uneven...like the edits weren't recorded on the same settings as the main recording. Hope there is a next book in the series is coming soon. Maybe we'll learn the secret of Spite's necklace...

Another triumph

Alice and Greg do it again! If you want some humor mixed with murder and ghosts you owe yourself a listen to one of Alice’s books!

Bring on the next one Alice!

Funny and great narration by Greg

I have read the book before on my Kindle, so I already loved the book (Alice Winters is so funny!). And Greg just brings it life with his great narration. He is so smooth and animated, and he brings the dry wit to life with flair. Honestly, Greg is one of my favourite narrators and I wish more authors used him. I just started listening to another book and the difference between Greg and this other guy is jarring.

fun and funny

okay so i think i liked this book more than the rest. i felt like i was watching a tv show where they solve crimes and stuff. however the banter was a lot. like i love these characters but there were times where i was like reggie come on that s enough and it would distract me from what was going on. still, i love alice winters’s writing style and will continue to read (listen) her books. i can see how it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but i personally love it. it s fun and lighthearted but also the suspense and the tension can be felt pretty well, although some of that can be attributed to boudreaux’s performance (which is excellent btw).

Book 1 - 5 stars
Book 2 - 5 stars
Book 3 - 4 stars
Narration- 5 stars

The serial killer storyline dragged on slowly and the ending was just average to me.

Great installment to this series

The narrator did a great job. I really enjoyed the story and this is a great series. This was a quick low angst listen.

The continuing adventures of Hiro, Maddox and his gaggle of ghosts

I loved the continuation of Hiro and Maddox’s paranormal romance with a side of mystery and evil actors. This book picks up where the second book ended but things are only calm in their lives for a brief period before ghostly chaos once again ensues. There is murder, mayhem, mysteries and learning more about Hiro’s abilities. Hiro has the unique ability to see and interact with ghosts. Maddox is a homicide detective who is Hiro’s boyfriend. Hiro works as a police consultant using ghosts to help solve crimes while also helping the ghosts move on. The book includes what you’d expect from this genre - sweet moments, steamy scenes, fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal beings, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. I love that Hiro’s character, despite his unique powers is still sweet, a bit naive, and self-deprecating which makes him a really likeable hero. The story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters, and an engaging storyline. The banter between Hiro and Maddox and Hiro and the ghosts was still one of my favorite parts of the story. I will definitely keep reading the series.

Greg Boudreaux once again did a phenomenal job narrating the story and breathing life into the characters with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

Greg is a star...

5 Stars for Greg because he is just a fantastic narrator and he deserves the praise.

3 stars for the story.

Hero runs into another person who is able to talk to ghosts. However, this person is nothing like Hero. This person also enlists Hero, unwillingly, into a twisted game of his.

These stories are GOOD. They really are BUT the author overdoes it with the characters of Reggie and Natalie. I suppose they are in the book for comic relief and look I am no prude but they are just crass and not funny at all. They are the reason I took away stars. Adding the overly sexual old ladies at the end did not help.

So, so great

I have loved this whole series but man, this book just has everything. Some of the most hilarious moments and the most heart-breaking, emotional moments and some pretty great suspense. I still feel like there are some loose ends though and I hope that means this series isn’t over.

Greg Boudreaux’s narration was wonderful, as always, and you could really feel the emotion in his voice.
