Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2017

The sequel to the Edgar Award-winning Greenglass House picks up one year later, and now 13-year-old Milo has a new mystery to solve over winter break. What I love most about this series is the coziness of the house itself: stately and elegant, with hidden reading nooks by the fireplace, frost glistening in the woods outside, and an attic full of old treasures. Unlike so many child characters, Milo has loving and supportive parents to talk to and bring him hot chocolate, so even while he is struggling to puzzle together clues, he is always safe in the embrace of his family. It is possible to listen to this without knowing the first book, but it will reveal a major plot spoiler if you listen out of order. —Sonja, Audible Editor

Well characters were good I wish we got to learn a little bit more about Violet cross but overall pretty good

What I disliked was that still the characters I didn’t really understand and also the narrator. I have to speed up his voice so much because he read so slowly for me personally , I read pretty fast.

Better Than What I Expected

I got this book on a lark. I started listening and at first I thought it was for a younger age group but I kept on listening. I really got into the characters and the Christmas time of the year. It surprised me what a good book it was. I really liked the story and thought it had a good ending. The narrator did a very good job. The only thing I did not like was the epilog. It entirely changed how I felt when I left the recording. I wish the author well in her quest but I just wanted to stay where the book left me for a while. I didn't care why the author did a couple of things in the book and why. I regard that as private. What I cared about was where the book left me when the book was done. Over all I found it to be a good listen for any age.

Fun, unusual story

I like the unusual premise, the strange names of the town and characters, the hero - a real person with real problems as well as surreal ones. The narrator does a good job with different voices, but here's my pet hate: he persists in calling a poinsettia a 'point-setter'. This just drives me nuts! Because the book is set at Christmas time, these plants come up often in the story, and every single time he mispronounces their name.

Excellent sequel

The first Greenglass House book was so good that we were worried the second one could not match it. Fortunately we were wrong, Ghosts of Greenglass House is just wonderful, a worthy follow up to a book we loved.

A sequel as good as the first book

I loved this book as much as the first book. It is rare when a sequel is as good but this one was. There are several characters who return from the first book and the story is just as interesting and funny as the first. Too bad there isn’t a real Greenglass house to visit. The narrator does a terrific job too. Totally worth a listen but again not for children under 10 unless they are very precocious! If you are and adult who appreciates young adult books this one should make you happy!
