In this mesmerizing sequel to the New York Times best seller Girls of Paper and Fire, Lei and Wren have escaped the oppression of the Hidden Palace, but their freedom comes at a terrible cost.

Lei, the naive country girl who became a royal courtesan, is now known as the Moonchosen, the commoner who managed to do what no one else could. But slaying the cruel monarch wasn't the culmination of her destiny - it was just the beginning. Now Lei, with a massive bounty on her head, must travel the kingdom with her warrior love Wren to gain support from the far-flung rebel clans.

Meanwhile, a plot to eliminate the rebel uprising is taking shape, fueled by dark magic and vengeance. Will Lei succeed in her quest to overthrow the monarchy, or will she succumb to the sinister magic that seeks to destroy her bond with Wren, and their very lives?

I'm not pleased by this ending

I feel so betrayed by this author. The first book in this series was very difficult to read but seemed like such an important one. That you can get away from your sexual assailants and fight to live after that. So, I was so excited to watch them fight and slowly succeed but then the ending betrayed all of that by putting her back into his hands again. I don't believe I will continue with this series bc I can't trust this author anymore...

Too Much Detail

Well, the war did not get finished. I am expecting Lei to finish the war and it just fell flat at the end. The details were way to much, they spent too much time on the quest getting around. I liked how she explained her sanity at the end in her notes, but she could not speak to conquering her traumatic event and coping in the book.

Mostly good

The first book is phenomenal, however, I felt some of the moments in this book were cringey at best. However, the overall story is still good and allows us to get to know our main characters better. I’m looking forward to the release of the third book!

Good story, not super well executed

It kills me to give such a low rating! I loved the first book, but this one fell flat and even a little annoying.

The bright spot was new side characters, but they were underused and their story lines were hardly explored. A shame since I was much more interested in them than the main character!

it was fine

I loved the first one but this one did not catch my interest. I felt there wasn't really an end goal and I felt like the group should've had more of a plan than everything being accidental, it didnt seem like they were much of a team at all. the battles were pretty cool but kind of underwhelming.
