About this listen

A Warhammer Age of Sigmar Novel

The Bad Moon looms over the city of Draconium, and Watch Captain Helena Morthan knows it bodes ill for the town. Can she and grieving warrior Hendrick Saul foil the plans of the Gloomspite Loonking, and save their people?

Listen because...

Andy Clark tells a twisted and disturbing tale of the grots of the Mortal Realms, delving into darkness in more ways than one. Strap in—this is going to be a wild ride....

The story:

In the dark corners of the Mortal Realms, the mad and mysterious Gloomspite Gitz go to war, following the trail of their abominable lunar deity. Nowhere is beyond the sight of the Bad Moon—not even those places under Sigmar’s protection, like the sweltering city of Draconium. Beneath the scalding rains of Aqshy, the city is a boiling pot of tension, its regent praying to Sigmar for guidance while Watch Captain Helena Morthan douses the fires of anarchy: blades drawn in the streets, heretical doomsayers preaching the end of days, and insects eating watchmen alive. When the grieving warrior Hendrick and his ragged warband arrive at the gates with a prophetic warning, Captain Morthan sees a way to save her people. But with the Bad Moon rising in the sky above and Skragrott the Loonking plotting in the depths below, will there even be a Draconium left for her to save?

Written by Andy Clark. Narrated by Harry Myers.

Good fun, light horror

fantastic narrator capable of a wide range of voices and great at playing the role of different personalities. Very engaging, it was difficult to pause I just wanted to listen to the whole thing in one sitting.

The writing was pretty good, and definitely did the job of giving me the heebie jeebies which is exactly what anything having to do with the Gloomspite Gitz should do! Thoroughly enjoyed the book and this performance of it

Not what I expected, but so much better

What I expected from the title and cover art: goblin chaos and silliness.

What I got: a grueling, apocalyptic horror story that, unfortunately, spoils the plot twist right in the title.

The bad moon rises!

Another good title by Andy Clark. The title and cover can be a little bit misleading thought that this was going to be a standalone novel for the gloom spite gitz which is one of my favorite factions in age of sigmar . But the story overall focuses on a mercenary group holding up in city besieged by them. Definitely feels kind of like a campy horror late '80s movie written in the age of sigmar, which definitely fits for the enemy in this book. It's a little bit slow to start off but the pacing is pretty good. Overall enjoyed it, Just hope that gloomspite actually gets a book written from their point of view one day

Horrifying and Fun

Gloomspite Gitz are most often portrayed comically so I was prepared for a lot of unintelligent grot conversations. I was thrilled to find that the band of mercenaries were the protagonists and the Gitz were teased before their reveal quite well. It felt like the events took place an Eldritch Horror story.
If BODY HORROR is your fear, then strap in and prepare for pretty much everything you could write in an official book.

Dark, bloody and mysterious

This book is for anyone who likes darker reads and mysteries. This book packs a punch with battles and magic. I enjoyed every moment and think anyone who loves to piece together clues or little green men that come from the depths and cause a heck of a mess.

excellent narration

This was a really fun listen. No spoilers but I teared up in a couple places. I didn't expect to get emotionally involved in a Warhammer book...

Perfect entry into horror of the moon.

Really enjoyed the novel loved that they were able to convey the true nightmare of living through an event such as the Bad Moon. Body horror, suspense and a good amount of pacing through different perspectives give way to a fun listen. Will definitely listen to again

A showcase of the devious nature of grots.

As a fan of all things goblin I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It does a great job of showcasing their deceptive nature, and use of magic and monsters. There is great horror feel to much of the book which is another high point for me.
