Good third installment

This was an interesting and thought-provoking story. It was different than the first two books in the series, about more than players on a soccer team. I am very particular about my audiobook narrators, and while I enjoyed Alexander’s portrayal of Santos and any other male character, his “female” voice was strange and difficult to listen to. I muddled through, though, since the story was so interesting.

Total Surprise. A must Listen!

If you listen to this book at work you're going to have to explain why you're crying. This book was such a surprise. I thought it was going to be another waste of time about a soccer player and his alpha dumb-jock teammates but it was so much more. Soccer was just a backdrop for a true, real relationship that was devastating and heartwarming and in the end your rooting for Santos and Mariana DeGuajarado. Santos is more than a dumb jock and Mariana is more than just a WAG.

Their relationship takes you through the ringer and even makes you evaluate why you've made the choices you've made in your own relationships. It questions whether trust that has been obliterated can truly be restored. Can you betray someone with little to no thought of how it will affect them when they find out and still love them? Is the quickest way to move on divorce or are there other options?

This was such an amazing listen. I loved the narration but I wish Alexander would realize very few women talk in a nasal whiny voice so he shouldn't. Speak softer not in a higher pitch you don't need dogs to hear you. Other than that this book was actually really perfect. If M.E. Carter writes like this in her other books I just may add her to my must buy list of authors.

Bummed...

I loved this novel, I love the characters, the story line, the neighbor, the kids. I felt invested in outcome and that is key for me to really love a book. But the ending was terrible, non existent actually. It was just done w/no closure, no happy ending, nothing! Instead of leaving this beautiful novel warm and content I just left hollow. Still glad I read it but dang... it could have been a home run with an ending!

Tough Subject for the Romance Section

Infidelity, consequences, anger, sadness, despair, grief and self-destructive behavior. This book pulls no punches. One section shows how we see something can be completely different from what another person sees. Really good book, especially for those that believe extramarital affairs are harmless. One thing for me to make clear in how I see blame in the vast majority of extramarital affairs... The married person is at fault as they made a commitment to their spouse. Blaming the other person is a waste of time as they have no commitment to the marriage.

Like Whoa... This Book is FANTASTIC

Each book in the Texas Mutiny series outdoes the one before it.

Goalie follows the story of Mari and Santos, a married couple who hit rock bottom in their relationship and head for divorce.

This book is not your typical romance. That is exactly why I loved it so very much. Listening to the narration during the more emotional scenes nearly broke me while I was sitting in traffic. Here I am breathing hard with tears running down my cheeks and my fellow commuters are just going on with their life like I wasn't just gobsmacked by M.E. Carter.

This book doesn't conclude with a neat little bow, but for this particular book, I think it's ended exactly how it needed to. Plus, there is a short story follow up, Megged, that takes us back into their world for just a little bit more.

A romance with a unique storyline.

I very much enjoyed this story. This series is very out of the box exploring themes that are very relatable and yet very unorthodox in the romance genre. I am a huge fan of stories with characters that pursue redemption and forgiveness and I enjoyed this one for that reason. Mariana's situation and perspective made me empathise with her very much, and seeing Santos evolving and face the consequencess of his actions was heartfelt. The female narrator, Kirsten Leigh was great overall. My main feedback on Alexander Cendese's narration is regarding his female voice... It's very difficult to appreciate the story when the female voice done by the male narrator sounds mocking. I enjoyed the story so I pressed forward but I really think his female voice needs some work.

Tough topic

I don’t hate that this is an infidelity story like some people. Yes, it is hard to read at times. But the characters are good and the ending isn’t saccharine.

I enjoyed it but the subject matter is hard to read.

Intense read!

I enjoyed Mariana and Santos’ journey. They had a lot to work through and it wasn’t an easy path. This story felt realistic and it was a lot of hard work.

Good story with real emotions

The story was written really well and the ending was believable. If she had completely "forgotten" his past behavior and they skipped off into the sunset with no worry left, the ending would have been not true to life. I do have to admit, the male narrator's voices for women made me cringe the entire time. He was fine for male characters and narration. Female narrator was fabulous.
