About this listen

National best-selling author Mary Monroe has drawn favorable comparisons to Toni Morrison and Zora Neale Hurston. In this sequel to the moving novel, God Don't Like Ugly, Annette Goode has finally found a man who loves her. But at a pre-wedding ceremony, her ugly past is revealed, and her world falls apart. When she reunites with her childhood sweetheart, it seems like everything might be fine - until her long-absent friend, who hides a deadly secret, comes back into Annette's life.©2003 Mary Monroe (P)2004 Recorded Books,LLC African American Family Life Fiction Romance

Skipped Book 1 per the suggestions

I skipped book 1 as suggested and I felt like I was still right on track. There was some mispronounced words, like Rhoda being called Rhonda a number of times... and some editing mishaps, but not enough to irritate me enough to make me stop listening. I am about to read up on the next book now to see if I should continue with the series or just leave well enough alone.

overall- it kept my interest and if I choose not to go to the next book I am comfortable with how this one ended.

I absolutely love every plot. This is well thought of and carefully worded. I’ll recommend this book to my sister because she’ll appreciate it even more. We’ll done…..

Good book

I loved this story bcuz it is a continuation of characters from God don’t like ugly which i thoroughly enjoyed. It was nice to spend some more time with them and enjoy the development of the characters depicted.

I listened to both books

I listen to both God Don't Like Ugly and God Still Don't Like Ugly. I couldn't stop listening to this intriguing story. I am so glad that there was a happy ending for Annette and Madear. I was so entrenched in her life that I felt her emotions.

HEALING

Well, it seems this book is a book of the first steps to healing. All confessions are out, Rhoda is back, PeeWee is gonna be a father, Frank and MaDear are getting along. But "GOD STILL DONT LIKE UGLY" seems Rhoda has been getting and still is getting the wrath of KArma!
This book had a lot of back and forth in the beginning but after all the flashbacks it came together. Cant wait to get to the next book.

I Liked It!

It took a while to get used to the voice recording, but that’s mostly because I just listened to the first book where the characters were younger.

I enjoyed the story and it was nice to see everyone in their adulthood with developing relationships.

Enjoyed This One Too

I enjoyed the story. It saddens me to think about all the things Annette has been through, the way she feels about herself, the way men treat her, how she always seems to go one step forward & two steps back etc. Just knowing that this is just a story but these feelings are true to someone’s life in real life is heartbreaking. I pray for the women (& men) who have been & are constantly being beat down by life!

A little disappointed that there was a new reader but the reader was still good.

Not a big fan of reiterating what happened in the first book a good chunk of the 2nd. I guess maybe because it’s now 2024 & all the books to the series are released & I’m listening to them back to back but it felt like punishment to have to listen to details I had JUST heard. No fault to the author.

I’m happy she was able to build a relationship with her father/siblings. & eventually with Rhoda again.

It was a relief for ME for Annette to FINALLY tell her mama about Mr. Boatwright.

It annoyed me how Annette held on to the secret about PeeWee being her child’s father. I didn’t understand the point of dragging out yet ANOTHER secret.

Well, onto #3.

One of my favorites

My go to author for interesting content. The reader is phenomenal! Annette is nice but Rhoda is my girl!
