About this listen

The instant New York Times bestselling author of Bad Mormon and breakout star of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City returns with a hilarious, illustrative, and deeply reflective book about life and love as a former Mormon, mother, and reality TV star.

In Bad Mormon, Heather Gay pulled back the veil on her orthodox adolescence and marriage in the Mormon Church, and the painful process of leaving it all behind. Becoming a successful business owner and reality TV star gave the single mom of three a second lease on life. After years of living in an insular bubble, Heather emerged bright-eyed, eager to take on the world…no matter how ill-equipped her upbringing may have left her.

Now, in this provocative and laugh-out-loud funny book, the mother of three proves that she isn’t just a Bad Mormon; she’s also a Good Time Girl!

With her “thoughtful, smart, and funny” (Kirkus Reviews) writing, Heather recounts the humorous trysts, mishaps, and serendipitous success she’s found as a life-long reveler in all things indulgent. Coming off the heels of the most-watched RHOSLC episode of all time, Heather gives listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the receipts, proof, timeline, and screenshots of that fateful night in Bermuda. From illicit high school trips to Tijuana and awkward dates set up by her overzealous costars, Good Time Girl is a charming and intimate meditation on community, love, independence, womanhood, and—most importantly—second chances.

Extraordinary Writing

Heather is brilliant. She is funny. She is self deprecating. She is genuine. Our world needs more Heathers.

Real

As a former LDS member and a RHOSLC fan…I am so proud of the raw, compassionate, hilarious, and relatable voice of H.G. I gobbled up (both) books when they debuted and I experienced all emotions to the core and have referred them to other women who have been members. If you weren’t LDS, her storytelling is like being wrapped in a warm blanket with a glass of wine. That temple name though…yikes.

A Post-Mormon’s Stamp of Approval

Heather shared authentic experiences with honesty, authenticity, and with compassion for herself and others including members of the Mormon Church who may still be in and believing. She tells her story with candor and finesse.

I love how she shows women obsess about beauty and allow ourselves to be hurt by the opinions of others. Her description of how she would live if she could eat whatever she wanted, be lazy around her house, and not have to put so much effort into appearing acceptable in the eyes of the public.

I am so impressed that she admits so many weaknesses to illiterate that we as women have been so hard on ourselves. In the end she show how she not only survives her mistakes, misjudged decisions, and her failures, and triumphs with her own energies along with some extra ordinary friendships who have her back.

Heather Gay is someone I admire. Her two books have given me a kick in my own journey and recovery from the trauma from being a former member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. (Mormons)

Insightful Memoir

Just as Heather’s first book, this one too gives you access into a life that was definitely meant to be bigger than the confines of a bad marriage, mormonism and social rules. I find Heather’s reflections on her life so captivating,..an invitation to reflect on your own life and the pure potential that lies within all of ua.
