About this listen

“Whimsical, witty, and brimming over with charm” (India Holton), Olivia Atwater’s delightful debut will transport you to a magical version of Regency England, where the only thing more meddlesome than a fairy is a marriage-minded mother!

It’s difficult to find a husband in Regency England when you’re a young lady with only half a soul.

Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassment—an unfortunate condition that leaves her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Season—but when Elias Wilder, the strange, handsome, and utterly ill-mannered Lord Sorcier, discovers her condition, she is instead drawn into peculiar and dangerous faerie affairs.

If her reputation can survive both her curse and her sudden connection with the least-liked man in all high society, then she and her family may yet reclaim their normal place in the world. But the longer Dora spends with Elias, the more she begins to suspect that one may indeed fall in love even with only half a soul.

"I am sure that every evil man believes himself to be charitable," she told him. "In that respect, at least, you are a true Englishman."

The perfect mixture of Howl’s Moving Castle and Pride & Prejudice! How could it be anything but 5 stars?! This best book I’ve read this year by far; I’ve already listened to it 2x this past month.

An absolute dream

Loved the story. Charming characters. It was a mix of pride and prejudice and fairy magic.

Just what I needed to entertain myself on a recent business trip - a lovely story that was surprisingly touching for a neurodivergent lady such as myself who doesn’t feel things quite the way others do

A lovely and light read!

This is pretty much everything that I was looking for in a romance. Cozy, but still enough movement to keep you on the edge of your seat. I could re-listen to this again and again.

Like Howl's Moving Castle, but regency England

It was a little short, I wish they had expanded on the romance between the two main characters a bit more but other than that I really enjoyed the book to the end. I would definitely recommend

A little short in my opinion

I wasn’t really sure what to expect but decided to try book after a person I trust’s review. The is my first book by this author but I will now read more of her work. She has spun a delightful tale of unique characters. Fairies and magic are present but also important social commentary on the work houses England once utilized. I also appreciated the attached short story as you learn more about Arthur’s character.

Delightful story

I read this book for book club and immediately had to get the rest of the books! Each book can be read as a standalone, but I would definitely start with this one if you can because they are interconnected and you will get the most from the series by reading them in order. Chef’s kiss! Love this so much! Audiobook was fantastic as well!

Great audiobook for an excellent book!

This is how you do the trope!

The main female lead feels relatable, she isn’t other worldly beautiful or swarmed by men but she has great wit and I found my self laughing while listening to book.

Finished it in two days!
