About this listen

Every workplace has that one person you don’t want to mess with.

At James & Peterson Investigations, that would be Cameron Grant: sullen, grouchy, intimidating, oh yeah, and sexy as hell. He can make your soul wither with a single disapproving glare. And he never, ever socializes with his co-workers.

This is why Maisie Wilkins, happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine, can’t fathom why Cameron finally decided to show up at their annual office Christmas party. Every year he received an invite, and every year he failed to attend. But not this year.

Curious as to why he’s there, Maisie can’t resist sitting next to Cameron. Before she knows it, she’s had one too many drinks and is drunkenly hailing a cab back to his place. Office party flings are not something she normally does, but despite his intimidating character, Cameron has a charm she can’t resist. Or maybe it was just those five gin and tonics blurring her judgement.

Whatever the reason, Maisie now has to navigate the awkward, tension filled waters of sharing an office with someone she’s slept with.

Office Sweetheart Melts the Office Curmudgeon!

This was a 're-read' for me. I loved the performance by Stacey Holmes. Maisie is so much fun to listen to!

Maisie is a researcher at a PI firm. She is unfailing happy and friendly despite being the odd man out at the office.

At the company holiday party, she catches sight of the office grump (and always highly professional) sitting at the bar alone.

Cameron is only there because their boss told him to come. Maisie decides to approach him and thus a new path in life is begun for both of them.

She erodes his walls and doesn't even realize he does't fight her approach. He does not suffer fools lightly, so obviously he does not find her an annoying flibbertigibbet.

Not only is this a sweet, steamy romance, but it also has a mystery. A combination I adore!! Maisie is sweet, curious, optimistic, and persistent. Cameron is introverted, sexy, broody, and surprisingly sweet.

I listened to this in almost one sitting (body decided it wanted to sleep). I still feel like it gives the feel of an old Hollywood movie, like Charade or To Catch a Thief.

Bad voice for a man

Glad to see heroine make some changes that benefited her and speak up for herself. There have been so many times that I see nice people taken advantage of. The world is so much better with us in it, but we do need check ourselves and realize that we need to truly understand that we have to find that balance of being nice and being a pushover. That balance of giving all and expecting and receiving less is not healthy. Kindness, thoughtfulness and goodness are not to be taken for granted. They are meant to be reciprocated. Don’t forget. Pass it on

This book will make you smile

Maisie really is a ray of sunshine, she’s a kind hearted woman, she cares for others and she’s really smart, enough to make Cameron’s ice melt.
The story is surrounded by the typical office dynamics, making this office romance fun and sweet.
I particularly enjoyed the friendship between Lila and Maisie, I love to see genuine friendships between women in the books I read and I’m happy that it’s happening more often.
The investigation the couple is doing at the same time the story develops is fun and interesting without taking all the attention from their story.
This was a great listen, it really made me smile and I will be listening to it again, probably more than once.

so much fun!

Listening to this book was a lot of fun. The story is romantic, humourous, has a good dash of mystery and is well paced. The narration was really good too, and really brought to life the very British flavour of the story. The only reason I chose to give it 4 stars and not 5 for performance was that especially in the initial chapters whenever the narrator spoke Cameron's lines it struck me as odd... i kept expecting a male voice. A few chs in, i was used to it and i think she did a good job of sustaining different tones for all the different characters.

Happy-Go-Lucky

This story is such an enjoyable read with interesting characters and a fun mix of mystery and romance. I originally read it as an ebook, but was excited when it was released as an audiobook.

I liked the narrator's performance quite a bit. The pacing and voices used for each character were well done. Even knowing the plot already I found myself drawn into the story as I listened.

I am looking forward to trying more audiobooks from LH Cosway!

Awesome listen

Happy-Go-Lucky is such a wonderful story. It is a funny and swoony slow burn romance with an entertaining mystery running through it.

“That almost smile etched itself into my heart. Cameron’s expressions of happiness were so few and far between that I kept them all secreted away, to swoon and obsess over in my free time.”

Maise is an amazing fun and quirky heroine. She has a great outlook and I couldn’t help falling in love with her. Even grumpy Cameron has no chance to resist.

“Cameron Grant was the yin to my yang. The wine to my cheese. The ketchup to my mustard. He tempered everything I was with everything that he was, and my life was infinitely better with him in it.”

I absolutely loved reading Happy-Go-Lucky and listening to the audiobook was even better. This will definitely be on my re-listen line up!

Loved it!

I’d already read “Happy-Go-Lucky” as an ebook a few months ago, but was excited to listen to the audiobook as a reread.

I loved how listening to the story of Maisie and Cameron was a completely new experience in audiobook format.
The narrator did a great job with the voices. She sounded exactly like I imagined Maisie to sound like when I was reading the book. The pacing was spot on, too.

Overall this was a great listen, and I hope there will be more audiobooks of Cosway’s books!

Love this book!

Most of this book was originally created for L.H. Cosway's newsletter and I was just as excited to listen to it as I was waiting for it every time her newsletter came out. What made this so different from the first experience was all of the added content. This is NOT just a re-read of what was sent out, so whether you received the newsletter or not is totally irrelevant. She really flushes out the characters and completes their story.

I love Maisie and Cameron's chemistry. I feel like they compliment each other really well. He's gruff where she's sweet and he's no-nonsense where she's a little meek. They both helped the other to change for the better and took their strengths to change each other's weaknesses. I really loved that.

I also loved the detective work. If you're a fan of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, you will 100% love this book. It had a very similar vibe with the whole who-dun-it theme. Everything came together in the end and for once, I was completely surprised at the ending. I usually figure these things out fairly quickly because clues are constantly dropped, but in this case there really wasn't. It was really well done.

Stacey Holmes does an excellent job reading as Maisie! She really embodies her character and brings her to life. Her male voice wasn't my favorite, mostly because there wasn't much that distinguished one man from the next, but it honestly wasn't awful and I'd listen to it again.

Overall, I highly recommend this book because it was just such a fun listen. Definitely pick it up, you won't regret it!

More than a lovely office romance

The narrator did such a wonderful job with this audiobook. Her narration was so good it drew me into the story, and I actually forgot that there was no male narrator, because she did such a good job with the male characters that I didn't even notice.

The author surpassed my expectations with this book. The story was originally written as a newsletter serial by the author about a PI company office romance. I enjoyed the story in the serial format, looking forward to each new chapter. However, in its published form the story is even better! In the beginning chapters, we get to know Maisie and Cameron. As we get to know them, we quickly realize they are very different people. Maisie is one of the most upbeat characters I've ever read, very non-confrontational, always trying to see the good in everyone. Cameron, is unfriendly, and very focused on his work. As their relationship develops they each begin to grow and evolve, both becoming more well-rounded. The interesting twist to the story develops when Cameron begins to train Maisie as an investigator, and they discover a complicated mystery while trying to resolve their case. In addition to the blossoming office romance, there is now a complex mystery to be solved. I enjoyed watching Cameron and Maisie work together to solve the case. I loved that Cameron saw Maisie's strengths, and encouraged her to grow. Maisie helped pull Cameron out of his protective shell. I recommend Happy-Go-Lucky as a fun romantic mystery read!
