Publisher's summary

Stephen Fry brings the richness of these magical stories to life in the original British recordings, available for the first time in the United States and Canada.

There it was, hanging in the sky above the school: the blazing green skull with a serpent tongue, the mark Death Eaters left behind whenever they had entered a building... wherever they had murdered...

Treat your ears to a performance so rich and captivating you'll imagine yourself in the halls of Hogwarts. Wherever you listen, the unmistakable voice of Stephen Fry is guaranteed to guide you ever more deeply into this magical story and transport you to the heart of the adventure.

When Dumbledore arrives at Privet Drive one summer night to collect Harry Potter, his wand hand is blackened and shrivelled, but he does not reveal why. Secrets and suspicion are spreading through the wizarding world, and Hogwarts itself is not safe. Harry is convinced that Malfoy bears the Dark Mark: there is a Death Eater amongst them. Harry will need powerful magic and true friends as he explores Voldemort's darkest secrets, and Dumbledore prepares him to face his destiny...

Theme music composed by James Hannigan.

Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Easy choice.

Everything. Very difficult to watch the movies anymore. The books are so much richer than the movies. The movies at best can be described as Harry Potter clif notes lite.

Stephen Fry's narration is the only way to enjoy the works of J.K. Rowling.

Thrilling yet sad more adult themes than teens.

Still impressed with the Stephen Fry rendition of all the main Harry Potter novels. After listening I immediately watch the movies and I feel like this novel to movie book leaves out the most. If you hadn't read the book prior to watching it would be very difficult to understand what was going on much less the motivation behind some of the characters. Not that the movie isn't worth watching by any means, I'm always so impressed with the things they can bring to life. As always thank you for allowing the Stephen Fry versions to reach US ears.

Beautiful and enchanting, as always.

A reread: Beautiful, enchanting, and heartbreaking all at once. I relived Harry's joyful experiences during Slughorn's potion classes, where he excelled using the advanced potions book with scribbled notes by the mysterious "Half-Blood Prince." I also re-experienced the emotional devastation of Dumbledore's death, which left Harry and the remaining members of the Order of the Phoenix gripped by fear and despair.

Stephen Fry's reading performance in the Audible version was done beautifully—never a dull moment, as always; highly recommended.

Here are my favorite wisdom quotes from this book:

1.) "It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more." – Albus Dumbledore

—Talks about life and death, teaching that fear is often based on what we do not understand.

2.) "It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew—and so do I, thought Harry, with a rush of fierce pride, and so did my parents—that there was all the difference in the world." – Harry’s perspective

—It reflects on how one would approach to face death. Dumbledore faced it with dignity and courage. These lines spoke about the importance of bravery, choice, and how one faces adversity.

3.) "Age is foolish and forgetful when it underestimates youth." – Albus Dumbledore

—It acknowledges the power and potential of young people in facing the battle ahead.

4.) "You are protected, in short, by your ability to love!" – Albus Dumbledore

—Love is the most powerful magic and the key to defeating evil.

5.) "There is no shame in what you are feeling, Harry. On the contrary, the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength." – Albus Dumbledore

—This talks about emotional strength, teaching that vulnerability and the ability to feel are integral to one’s character and resistance against evil.

6.) "The best of us must sometimes eat our words." – Albus Dumbledore

—It recognizes that even great minds must accept when they are wrong and learn from their mistakes.
