About this listen

A Romantic Times Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, CBA best-selling author Tracie Peterson is acclaimed for her blend of romance and adventure. In this tale of 1886 Texas, a caring young woman can heal the physical and emotional wounds of others but can’t mend her own hurting heart. As Deborah Vandermark pursues medicine under the tutelage of her beau Dr. Christopher Clayton, she soon realizes her West Texas lumber town isn’t ready for a woman doctor. Yet she has reason to hope - until Christopher abruptly breaks off their blossoming relationship and rushes back home to his family. When a sobering truth emerges and Deborah’s dream begins to fade, she fears she must turn her back on the love that’s taken root in her heart. While love and hope battle with hate and despair, Barbara McCulloh’s gripping narration captures the intensity and inspiration of Peterson’s compelling Hearts Aglow.

I love how some history is told through the story. It’s very refreshing to hear how people seek God and a relationship with him through their troubles.

Love the history.

I like that there is excitement and trying to guess what’s next leading into the next book

Wonder what’s next

I like that ‘A handshake & a friends word’ were binding agreements with true friends. I didn’t like written agreements with between the ‘2 co-owners’ were done with sheriff & lawyer & the original owner uninformed until later.

Integrity

I was glad I had listened to the previous book in this series or I wouldn't have understood much of what was happening. I was very frustrated when it came to the end, though, as very little had been resolved and much was left hanging for another book. I'd wait until the next one is published and then read all three in a row, as the story itself is decent.

No good without the book before and the one after
