I like the story line. It has real promise. The beginning chapters were hard to get into from the way they were being read. The middle developed nicely. I’ll read the next one to see where the characters are now and how much the author has developed in her writing. Well Done.

Oh my goodness gracious this book was everything in a fae fantasy you could ask for! To tell you I enjoyed every aspect of this read isn’t even giving you how I felt during it. The world building, details, character development and descriptions of the world and characters themselves was fabulous. I cannot express how much I loved this book! CC Hartly, you are an awesome storyteller.

Initially I thought this was going to be a story just like the hundreds of other series in Romantsy category. Instead this book was wonderful from start to finish. I liked that the characters aren’t always what they seem at first. Then with a with a flick of the wrist we see their true agenda. Next thing I know it 3am and the ending credits start. Although I don’t usually like a cliffhanger ending, it worked out well in this book. I can’t wait for more of this series to come out in next year. I’ll preorder the next book as soon as it is announced.

My thoughts are all over the place with this book. There were things I liked but also hella things I didnt. I did have a good time while reading it but I dont know. It was heavy on romance aspects of it but no real relationship development. I didnt really like the FMC or MMC. I didnt like the spice. The spice was frequent but it felt meaningless honestly. There weren't any stakes like what were we fighting for or what are we supposed to care about. The audiobook didnt really convey any emotion. I just think I should have DNFed it.

The most frustrating aspect of the audiobook, which is what I am reviewing is that the narrator of the audiobook trails off in volume at the end of sentences to be dramatic, but the effect is that I can’t hear it unless I have headphones on, which is not safe in the car where I normally listen to my audiobooks.

Regarding the actual book:

This story was not fresh or unique, a lot seemed to come straight from the pages of major, well known authors. The plot is a rollercoaster but not in a good way—it’s like an outline with half-cooked thoughts and multiple ideas converging into a random story with no clear path.

Details are made with fancy adverbs and adjectives, sometimes so repetitive that they would be listed on the same line in a thesaurus. Instead of taking the time to describe things and let the image form, a bunch of big fancy words are thrown into a short paragraph and you are left to wonder what you are supposed to see in your mind’s eye.
