Detective Samantha Easton has always thought of herself as an adaptable person. But when she nearly dies after being shot on the job, Sam discovers something totally at odds with her rational, analytical personality: she can now see the spirits of people who have died, and she's not finding it easy to adapt.
As if the sudden appearance of ghosts on the streets of Boston and her dead great-grandmother's curious questions about her love life aren't enough, Sam is being haunted by a mystery woman. This beautiful ghost, Mae, has no memories and is unable to move on from this life to whatever comes next - and she wants Sam to solve the mystery of her death.
Sam readily accepts the case, happy to get back to doing what she does best. There's only one problem: falling in love with Mae wasn't part of Sam's plan.
As the two women unravel Mae's secrets, they fall deeper in love with one another...but how can a ghost and a living person live happily ever after?

I'll start off by saying the characters in this book were well developed and the story was... interesting. It's basically a love story between a living person and a ghost. This is possible because the main character can see ghosts. It's definitely a story about life and death and human emotion.
A ghost love story

The writing was pretty good, clean and easy to understand. Though the narrator had a couple stylistic quirks that, over the course of the book, started to really irritate me. But they might not annoy other people. They really were about style, not quality.
[Mild spoiler] My biggest complaint here is that you never learn how or why any of it happened. There's a connection to something from the past, but you never learn if there's a reason for it. That whole aspect of the plot is never addressed and the book felt weaker for it. Without solving that particular mystery, the book was only left with the romance, which was fine, but why set up a mystery if you're not going to solve it?

it had a really good romantic background, it's a book that will pull you in to their race against time , as they try to find answers for Mays life crisses.
This is a book you will want more of.
You must buy and read it for sure.
This Author knows her stuff I love all her works.
oh, I guess I should I need to mention the narration wasn't to bad. Sam and Mays voice was amazing, the male characters ,well it was a good try. she did a great job expressing their feelings , I felt the depth of their emotions and the end was coming for them. So I still would say give this book a try, you won't he disappointed.
What a great book ... I loved it

Despite the somewhat morbid premise, I'm pleased to say it has a happy ending. The story primarily focuses on Sam. After an injury on the job, Sam realizes she can see ghosts. One of them is more mysterious than the others, and she tries to help the ghost move on to the afterlife. There are a handful of side characters, and I like how the author kept them in the story instead of introducing them once and never hearing from them again. Her partner patrick isn't just a "yes man"; in addition to providing emotional support, we learn about his family and he provides advice for her. We learn about sam's dysfunctional family and lack of friends, but we don't learn very much about May.
The narrator did fine. She gave Patrick the cheery personality and her dad the old, cranky personality. We feel sam's emotions when she's afraid and excited.
Happy Ending

Where does Hereafter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Fairly highly, for the romance genre. This was interesting in terms of how they met, how they fell in love and particularly how they managed to make love, given that one of the characters is a ghost. Nice resolution in the end. What was one of the most memorable moments of Hereafter?
Donner and blitzen scenes.Kept me interested

Around chap 18-19 I felt like the writing got a bit... floofy? Not sure how to say it, but a little too sugary for me and not exactly like the rest of the book. Then it went back to how it had been. Not sure what that was about, or if it was just me. I can’t speak to the physical intimacy scenes because I am not really into F/F, but it wasn’t awful.
Narrator was good except for a couple odd spots here and there. I’d listen to him again.
Happy ending, loved the setup
