About this listen

She signed up for the sisterhood, free cars, and the promise of a successful business of her own. Instead, she ended up with an addiction, broken friendships, and the rubble of a toppled pyramid . . . scheme.

Hey, Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, and the Other Lies Behind Multilevel Marketing is the eye-opening, funny, and dangerous personal story of author Emily Lynn Paulson rising to the top of the pyramid in the multilevel marketing (MLM) world, only to recognize that its culture and business practices went beyond a trendy marketing scheme and into the heart of white supremacy in America.

A significant polemic on how MLMs operate, Hey, Hun expertly lays out their role in the cultural epidemic of isolation and the cult-like ideologies that course through their trainings, marketing, and one-on-one interactions.

Equally entertaining and smart, Paulson’s first-person accounts, acerbic wit, and biting commentary will leave you with a new perspective on those “Hey Hun” messages flooding your inbox.

Listened to the whole thing in 1 day while home sick. Really enjoyed it. I liked the format of a quote from a MLM participant, her personal stories, and data/study sharing. Smart, well-written and entertaining book.

Interesting story and analysis

I am so impressed with the way Emily takes responsibility and shares vulnerably all while taking accountability. She talks about really difficult things clearly and thoughtfully. I like the way she brought in culture and supremacy and its influences on MLMs. 10/10 recommend! Thank you Row House Publishing for helping to get this book out into the world!

Clear and thoughtful

The author claims to be so evolved, but still seems pretty full over herself. The storyline is informative and entertaining, but woven throughout the whole book is the same ideas in rhetoric repeated over and over and over.

This could be half as long

This is one of the best narratives I’ve heard on Audible. It’s so nice to hear it from the author herself and makes the story that much more relatable. I’ve been looking forward to hearing Emily’s story and I’m not disappointed. In a way it’s extremely shocking, yet not at all.

So well written, narrated and told

I knew behind the perfect curated posts that MLM is predatory towards women. Sad to see that so many are falling still for this BS of selling online. Thank you for exposing the truth

Great deep dive into the world of MLM

Well written, enlightening, honest, and vulnerable. I appreciate the author’s willingness to not only dive into the mindset she was in when she was pulled in to the MLM, but how she has worked to deconstruct the experience after she has left. An important word of warning for those considering joining, or who are currently involved in an MLM.

An intimate view into the world of MLM’s and the disturbing cult-like environment they exist in

I read Emily’s memoir awhile back, so was curious when I saw she’d released a book about her MLM experience. I knew enough about MLM’s to avoid them, but wow, things are so much worse than I realized. An engaging personal story with a lot of interesting research - I hope Emily keeps writing more as her journey continues to unfold!

Wow - eye opening!

I was invited to join an MLM one and passed, but recently there have been more of these “boss babe biz coaches” who hide they earned their money that way, so I was curious about this book.
I listened to the whole book in 2 days and was blown away. I was hooked and kept wanting more. Emily is an excellent writer- and for all the haters who mentioned it was political, chill it’s like 2 paragraphs out of 10 hours. Bravo Emily!

This was so fascinating + interesting

This book is read by the author. She takes us on a deep dive into her time within an MLM while also placing her experiences into the broader context of our current world. Candid and profoundly self-reflective, would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the subject of MLMs or just in the experience of a modern woman’s journey of revelation.
