Publisher's summary

A brutal attack on Emily Stanton's family has left her for dead...until she is found in the woods by a handsome stranger with a thick brogue who vows to protect her. There's only one problem: As a woman with a noble English background, she has no business keeping company with such a man.

For Scotsman Iain MacEnroy, Emily's high-tone accent is a bitter reminder of the oppressive regime he left behind. The last thing he needs is to be burdened by the needs of a beautiful, blue-eyed Englishwoman. But taking care of elegant, educated Emily begins to transform Iain in ways he never imagined. Could it be that the deep divisions from the old world no longer apply in the new - and that Iain and Emily can share a passion as lush and wild as the Scottish highlands themselves?

Iain and Emily

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Audible Premium Plus borrow. While the audiobook narrator didn't specify it seemed like there were at least 4 different POV. This is book 1 of 7 in the Seven Brides for Seven Scotsmen series. There was a portion of the book that was duplicated from chapter 11 to chapter 12, without that it would've been a 4 star read/listen. Narrator Justine Eyre read well and I enjoyed all three of her different accents: English, Scottish, and American. Content warnings: the h brother-in-law and sister are murd€r€d; multiple attempts are made on the h and her nephew's life; the h uncle k¡lled her parents and his own parents among other people before the H finally ends him; the H parents were also k¡lled.

Emily Stanton (21; English) escapes with her nephew when her uncle's men come to k¡ll Emily and her family because he wants the land they will inheritwhen their grandfather passes. The men did k¡ll her brother-in-law and her older sister and left their house burning. Iain MacEnroy (28; Scottish) and his 6 brothers go to investigate the fire and find the bodies of Emily's deceased relatives. A blood trail leads them to Emily and her 3 year old nephew's hiding place. At her request the 7 brothers take Emily and her nephew back to Emily's home. After they showed Emily her family's grave and she retrieved a box from her home the brothers take Emily and her nephew to their home. Once inside the MacEnroy home they realize she was shot and they have their housekeeper attend to her wounds. Over time her nephew grows fond of Iain and his brothers, and so does Emily. Her uncle continues to try to end Emily and her nephew's life and he is even able to wound Iain but Iain successfully ends the threat. In the end Iain and Emily are married with her grandfather's blessing and Emily gives birth to their first daughter. JP

Really good story, and Justine is my absolute favorite narrator. I’d listen to anything she narrates.

The Scottish accents were horrendous

The story was ok. Ian’s irrational dislike of her being gentry was weird, and her secret wasn’t really one that she needed to keep. Aside from that, the story was ok, but the accents were just awful.

Audio has repeated chapters

Nice enough story. Duplicates in the chapters
Frustrating to skip through. A bit predictable but entertaining

The review below saying that the timeline is incorrect - no the timeline is correct. She obviously was mistaken 🙄. Some reviews are obtuse…,
