Publisher's summary
From New York Times best-selling author Hannah Howell, a classic love story of a Scottish hero too wild to be tamed and the woman he's destined to set free....
Pleasance Dunstan is used to silently bearing the cruelties put upon her by her thoughtless family. But nothing can prepare her for the greatest indignity of all: being sold into servitude to a man as wild as Tearlach O'Duine. His untamed ways are whispered of throughout town, and he has set his sights on Pleasance to be more than his servant. He will have her in his bed.
Pleasance could escape this fate with a word, but her fierce pride keeps her silent. Instead, she follows her new master to the rough lands where he has made a home and finds a world beyond any she has ever known - a world of desire. For though he is her captor, only Tearlach can show her how freeing true passion can be...and while her servitude to him will one day end, nothing can stop the binding of their hearts....
Contains mature themes.

As wild as the rugged north country where she was raised, Saxan Honey Todd has sworn to avenge the murder of her twin brother. Recklessly, she gallops across the English countryside in pursuit of the man she believes to be his murderer: Botolf, Earl of Regenford. As hard and unyielding as the armor he wears in battle, Botolf is irresistibly drawn to the impetuous beauty who has come to wage war with him. Saxan stirs his passion to the point of madness, but to love her would be madness indeed.

Story
Lady Eve Sotherby dreams of escaping her horrid life in England, yet she has nowhere to run. So when she spies a posting for a companion in the Highlands, she seizes the chance to disappear. She’s heard tales about the barbaric Highlanders, of course, but no one can be worse than the beast she once foolishly agreed to wed. And never mind that she doesn’t meet any of the requirements for the position: must have no family, must love the cold, and must know the healing arts.

Not the best but good
I liked the book; I didn’t love the book. The main male character for most of it was either angry or very angry or in lust. Of course, he wouldn’t talk about it and kept secrets. The female lead was strong, hardworking, dedicated, etc. His character needed to be more dimensional instead of angry or in lust. She needed to listen to the promises she makes to herself. The ending was too fast as in time to wind this up, how many ties are we working with? And what happened to Moira at the end? And then we have a narrator with the questioning English accent which I dislike.

Most unlikable MMC ever!
Also most ineffective hero ever. No way a sane woman falls in love with a man like that. I found some details in the story a little far fetched like when the women go about digging the grave and fixing the roof all in the middle of a horrible snowstorm! Not my fav book by this author.

Enjoyed it
I enjoyed the book, but it was a little predictable at times. I think the way the narration of the main male character made him sound rougher than intended. Main female character was way too weak of character, but that is the way life is.

Good story
The female lead started out as weak but evolved as the story went forward and discovered her voice. The treatment from her family, with the excception of none brother, was horrendous, and she shouldn't have felt any loyalty. The male lead was stubbornly focused on his bruised ego. Eventually, he got it together, and the story progressed well as the two grew together. Overall, it's a good book. Narrator did a good job.

Good read
I was a hesitant to read this book due to some of the reviews, but I feel like those people shouldn’t be listening to historical romances. I felt like this was the good story with good characters. I had no issue with it. They kept me interested.
