About this listen

The cost of his redemption is trust. Her trust….

When Nate promises to protect his best friend’s little sister from her traitorous uncle, he knows it’s the least he can do to atone for his past sins. And if a marriage of convenience is the most efficient way to guarantee her safety? So be it. He’s ready for anything…except how quickly his lovely new bride would steal his heart….

Susannah never intended to marry the man who led her brother to his death. The fact that she once loved him? Irrelevant. She just can’t allow herself to trust him again. But it’s not long before she starts to wonder if there’s more to Nate than meets the eye. What if he’s not the villain she assumed he was? And if that’s the case…can her poor, beleaguered heart survive another inevitable fall?

Nate and Susannah have much to overcome if they have any hope of finding their way to happily ever after. But what if trust is simply a luxury neither can afford?

Truly Enjoyable!!

This was my first book by this author and I truly enjoyed it. I found the story line very engaging and it kept my attention easily with a blend of drama, emotion, action, humor, twists and romance. I did find myself having complicated feelings about Nate and Susannah. I grew to like them but I did have pet peeves with both of them. There is a solid cast of secondary characters and a villain that is easy to hate. This book features a single male narrator and I found his voice quite pleasing. Overall, a great read that left me eager to explore future books in this series and just more of this author's work in general.

evil corruption

I found this story to be very intriguing and was on the edge of my seat most of the time. So many deceptions and whp to believe?? Not a good way to start a relationship for Nate and Sue!! Can this couple survive after all of this. I enjoyed this story very much. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job.

30 years a historical fiction book lover. This book is in the style of Mcnaught. If you don't know who Judith Mcnaught is you can't yet to truly call yourself a romance book lover. The story keeps you guessing and the narrator uses varied and accurate accents. This author needs an rita award. Get this one it's a fabulous.

Trapping A Traitor

A reluctant bride and a spy who loves her. To protect her, Nate must marry her before her traitorous uncle marries her off to someone else. But Susannah sees his secrets as lies and and insists on knowing the truth. I enjoyed this tug of war between the unyielding debutante and her loyal childhood friend. The narration was good.

Performance is everything

With audio books performance is almost as important as the story itself and both story and narrator were a treat. I enjoyed this spy story. Intrigue, a happily ever after and a male narrator... my fav for romances... all added up to a solid experience. Highly recommend.

Very entertaining, emotionally intense...:)

Nate and Susannah once loved each other - but he was forced to break her heart to save her brother and she, believing he betrayed her and her family, cannot make herself trust him again. And it doesn't matter that she is to become his wife... soon.

It's a fantastically written romance, full not only of emotional turmoils but also action and suspense to the point of you biting your nails in anxiety... I admit, there was a time (or two) when I wanted to slap Susanna in the head and tell her "Think girls, think, and start listening" but... oh, well, when someone you trusted the most totally and completely let you down and left you in the hands of an oppressive guardian, you have the right to be a bit stubborn and not take him at his word, right...? :)

Narration by Mr Priestley is great - although I didn't quite like one or two of the female voices he gave the characters, he made it up by bringing the whole story to life in a very cinematic, very radio-drama kind of way... :)

Amazing Regency Romance / Romantic Suspense!

This was my first Justine Covington's book. Wow!! His Lady to Protect is the first book of The Beggars Club Series, an amazing Regency Romance / Romantic Suspense / Second Chance to love / Best friend's sister / and Marriage of Convenience. The cover is beautiful! This story is wonderfully well written, original, suspenseful, and romantic. I was hooked from to first page to the end. Nate is handsome, loyal and very protective. Susannah is lovely, strong, and stubborn. They are perfect together, and they share an undeniable chemistry. The supporting characters are great, and they have an important part in this story. The world building is amazingly complex, but easy to follow. The storyline is captivating, and has it all: unpredictable twists and turns, suspense, drama, humor, secrets, lies and romance. Nathaniel Priestley did an outstanding job with the narration. He has a great voice, and his sexy British accent is really pleasant to listen to! This is a great team, author/narrator! I enjoyed it, and I HIGHLY recommend it. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, His Lady to Honor. Edge of your seat book!

I asked to receive this free review Audible book and wrote this unbiased review. Talk about an edge of your seat book! There will be several twists and turns including one that is a jaw dropper. The author does a great job of character development. With Nate the author slowly gives the listener insight into events that made Nate the man he is. We also see how his promise to protect also evoles into love. Susannah has been hurt and lied to so many times that she doesn't know who to trust or believe. You can't help but feel for both of these characters. The narrator does an excellent job of portraying the emotions and personalities of these characters. He instantly pulls you into the story and brings the story to life. I highly recommend this Audible book. This is a long book but it flew by and was over before I knew it due to all of the exciting action.
