About this listen

Will hate and fear drown the song of Christmas love?

Amelia is eagerly anticipating her first Christmas in the west, but she soon finds that her brother-in-law's worry and her sister's exhaustion reach far deeper than the cares of a ranch and a family. A rash of fires and cattle thefts is plaguing the area, and the three young orphans they've sheltered are under suspicion from their prejudiced neighbors.

As hostilities mount, Amelia seizes every opportunity to help and encourage, but how much can one girl do? Will Reverend Brown win the community over to the true spirit of love? And will help arrive before everything they hold dear is destroyed?

I greatly enjoyed this sweet, yet thought-provoking story. The Macy family was endearing and I quickly grew to love Amelia, the main character. Her interactions with her sister, brother-in-law, and her nieces and nephews was sweet to read about and made me sad for when the story ended. I also really liked Reverend Brown.

The message of this story was tastefully written, yet got across the Biblical truth that everyone is made in the image of God and we must let His love for us and others rule our hearts, not prejudice. (Or let others who are prejudiced influence our thinking.)

The ending was satisfactory and for a shorter story, I felt that this author did an excellent job in writing it in such a way that it did not feel rushed. I admire her ability in that.

The narrator also did a good job.

I give this book 5/5 stars.

This books was good! I loved the aspect of combating true racism towards Indians in thr old west. I don't really get why the author chose to make the children involved mix-raced, but other than that, I have no complaints about this book! A sweet story for the whole family!

Technically the story setting is the Arizona territory - meaning before Arizona became a US state. I mention this to give a plot timeframe. Frontier life and risk, Adopted native American children, a pastor and an Arizona Ranger. Mix in some arson and cattle stealing and the author creates a historical fiction story based on reality of the Arizona Rangers. The narrator does a good job voicing characters and situations.
