About this listen

Deep in the woods lies a box, buried where no one would find it. But someone has…

FBI Special Agent Emily Slate is no stranger to tragedy. After losing her husband three months ago, then botching the biggest case of her career, she’s barely escaped a full suspension. Determined to get her life back on track or die trying, she takes a seemingly impossible case in hopes she can turn her fortunes around.

But as Emily arrives in the small Virginia mountain town and dives into the mystery, she discovers the remains of a woman, buried, with her eyes sewn shut. As she peels away the layers of the complex case, Emily realizes that a disturbing mind lurks in the shadows, and it’s only a matter of time before they strike again.

While Emily puts all of her skills to the test in solving the case, she doesn’t realize that the evil forces she hopes to stop now have her in their sights. She’s stumbled on something far larger and more treacherous than she could have ever realized, and if she’s not careful, she’ll be the next body to end up in a box.

Eye See You, Agent Slate.

Secrets are meant to stay buried.

Better turn back before you find yourself among them.

An awesome novel, I’m now hooked on the series. The narration was perfect and really helped make the book come alive. My only disappointment is that the next books in the series aren’t on audible yet.

Great Narration!

It did get boring a bit. I would have liked to skip ahead. I did like it.

Well I’m hooked. Great start to the series. Nicely paced story with lots of possibilities and I was surprised at the end as to who it was. Narrator wad perfect for this character. I can’t wait to see how Emily’s story plays out. A outstanding book.

Excellent

I’ve been listening to book after book and this one is the best so far.
A little simple for the story line but the narrator was the best so far also.
Story keeps moving and keeps you intrigued.

Best I’ve listened to yet

The story is good. The narrator does a decent job. Her voiceb wasn't what I expected for the character at first, but it fits one you get to know the main character better. I plan to read more in the series

Good read

The story is good, a serial-killer story, but the main character, FBI agent Emily Slate, is somewhat...bland. There are some complexities that are alluded to and the book is good enough to make me want to read or listen to the second one in the series. The narrator: She does a GREAT job of doing all the character voices, EXCEPT of the main character. She's young, looks young, and I suppose she should sound young, but it's borderline valley girl in some instances. I think this narrator has great potential. She did the male characters great, and several with a southern drawl. In the beginning of the book some of her sentences are hard to hear at the end, the very couple of last words just too low to hear. It's worth a listen, the story is good and who doesn't love a good serial-killer mystery?

A good story, and I'll listen to the next one

Absolutely loved this book. Had me on edge of who the prime suspect was. Will be reading more of her in the future.

Book can’t put down

The book kept my attention. I like it that the end left me curious. It was pretty well written although I personally don’t care for present tense writing- but that’s a personal preference. Over all, I’d love to listen to the next book!

She also talks too much about herself during the story. It sure tracks and it takes the suspense off of it
