About this listen

One small town’s dark secrets lay hidden in the hollows…

Rumors have swirled around Jake Cashen his whole life. Is he crazy like his father? Is it true they booted him out of the F.B.I. right after he cracked a career-making RICO case? Was he dirty?

Only Jake knows, and he’s not telling. He came back to his tiny hometown at the foot of Ohio’s Blackhand Hills to serve as a deputy sheriff. He hopes to punch a clock and keep his head down until retirement.

It was a solid plan—until someone put a bullet in the head of a revered county judge.

Jake’s new boss knows Jake has a particular set of skills. The Sheriff pins a detective badge on him, whether Jake likes it or not. He could have said no, but as Jake watches the locals nearly bungle the case in the first five minutes, he knows he’s all in.

As Jake digs into the murder, he soon learns Judge Rand had enemies in every corner, and someone hiding in plain sight may be plotting to bring his investigation to a deadly end.

To bring a cold-blooded killer to justice, Jake’s forced to confront every truth he’s tried to escape—even the ones that could bury him.

Murder in the Hollows is the gripping first book in the Detective Jake Cashen thriller series. Author Declan James, a former police detective, brings you authentic crime fiction that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Perfect for fans of Connelly, Box, Dugoni and Baldacci.

I enjoy listening to audiobooks while driving. This book made my 8hr round trip drive to Traverse City, Michigan fly by. If you like detective murder, mystery books, you’ll love this one.

Perfect murder, mystery, book

I've found a new author. This is a true mystery with a great twist. The narrator is very good and kept me in the story.

Great book

Why do these main characters always have to have soooooooooo much drama. Could we please just have a regular cop, great at his/her job and the story be about their investigation. No the main person has to have so much drama it takes away from the story. Sorry I wasted my money. This guy was a whiney BIT**. No more.

Why

The narrator overdoes it so much that every character (other than our main character) sounds like a cartoon. The plot was rather predictable but engaging enough.

Okay story, bad narration

I appreciated Declan's expert buildup of the characters and how he's crafted Jake Cashen's personality. Also, well read by the voice actor. Great listen!

good story

It was easy to listen to. Strong characters and strong narration! I enjoyed and will listen to rest of the series.

Story line was a bit thin in places but character development was intriguing. It made me interested in finding out what’s next.

It made me want to listen to the next story.

Well thought out story lines and easy to listen too.
I liked it very much.

Enjoyed the mystery

I liked it. Good story, but factual and fictional geography of the state of Ohio interlaced. I recommend you listen to more than only a few hours before giving it rotten tomatoes. The language is not offensive in my opinion, with very little swearing. And the only yelling seemed to me to be from a too fast narration and at times the level of the narrators recorded voice when not necessary. However, I do have volume control on my devce, adjusted it lower, and slowed the speed to 90% for a more enjoyable experience with this one.

Why the 1 & 2 hour listening negative reviews?
