About this listen

Once in nine lives, something extraordinary happens...

The last thing Gwen Cooper wanted was another cat. She already had two, not to mention a phenomenally underpaying job and a recently broken heart. Then Gwen’s veterinarian called with a story about a three-week-old eyeless kitten who’d been abandoned. It was love at first sight.

Everyone warned that Homer would always be an “underachiever,” never as playful or independent as other cats. But the kitten nobody believed in quickly grew into a three-pound dynamo, a tiny daredevil with a giant heart who eagerly made friends with every human who crossed his path. Homer scaled seven-foot bookcases with ease and leapt five feet into the air to catch flies in mid-buzz. He survived being trapped alone for days after 9/11 in an apartment near the World Trade Center, and even saved Gwen’s life when he chased off an intruder who broke into their home in the middle of the night. But it was Homer’s unswerving loyalty, his infinite capacity for love, and his joy in the face of all obstacles that inspired Gwen daily and transformed her life. And by the time she met the man she would marry, she realized Homer had taught her the most important lesson of all: Love isn’t something you see with your eyes.

Homer’s Odyssey is the once-in-a-lifetime story of an extraordinary cat and his human companion. It celebrates the refusal to accept limits—on love, ability, or hope against overwhelming odds. By turns jubilant and moving, it’s a memoir for anybody who’s ever fallen completely and helplessly in love with a pet.

“Entertaining, heart-warming, and sometimes heart-wrenching….Throughout, Homer entertains with his insatiable curiosity and joie de vivre...I couldn’t put the book down and I read half the passages aloud to my husband. I guarantee you’ll find the book as engaging as I did.”—Catster

“Moving and inspiring . . . a three-hankie tale of life and the love that can exist between owner and pet.”—Florida Times-Union

A Must Read!

I have purchased and read the physical book, the Kindle edition and listened to the Audible edition of this book. I plan on gifting it to several people for Christmas. It is that good! Truly enjoyed the interview with author and husband on Audible edition. The author said that 10% of profits go to varius animal charitie. Please buy this book!

I LOVE THIS SORRY SO MUCH

I would never think that a blind cat would be so brave but when I think of it it makes sense he or she would not be able to see all the thing’s that scares people or other animals and poor Scarlett she is so misunderstood she just didn’t like people

I would recommend this book for dog or bird lovers( my cousin Scarlett recommend this book to me)

It is good ❤️❤️💕💕❤️❤️💕💕❤️❤️💕💕❤️❤️

The personality of cats, the unstoppable nature of her blind cat

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve been reading Christian and biblical books and decided to take a little break and since I have 2 cats thought this would be interesting. This was absolutely delightful to listen to. She truly made the personality of each cat come alive. I listed almost straight thru in one night. The part about 9/11 and the twin towers and distressing about her beloved pets. When she took Homer to vet thinking this was it I started crying and then quite relieved when all was okay. Loved every minute of this story, and if you’re an animal lover you will not be disappointed. Almost wish there was a sequel.

I never cry over a story but I did over homer it was a great story. I have had a kitten I named Bob for a month now someone left him and his sister in the street to get run over his sister didn't make it but Bob did cause I had him Bob is a so funny he is two month now any ways this story made me think of him as soon as she saw homer she said I am taking hi what a great girl a heart of gold I hope she writes another book about the cats. maybe she can enclose the patio so none of the cats will fall off. I was so scared homer was going to die when he would not eat or drink not even play with his worm I will send this book to every one I just wish I could give it a ten

Great Story

I enjoyed this story very much and especially enjoyed the message that no one gets to determine your potential.

Excellent story marred by sound issues

Homer's story was top notch!

My issues were with the sound and narration. The narrator speaks clearly; however, her pronouncement of 'S' as "sch" was distracting.

The author/husband interview at the end was impossible to listen to. While Gwen's voice is well amplified, Laurence is too quiet. This was especially disappointing as his voice is described as "booming" throughout the book. I was also not a fan of the author talking over her husband. I genuinely wanted to hear both voices.
