Publisher's summary

Imagine getting out of the bath and finding blood in four of your six rooms.

That’s not the plot of a B-movie. That’s real life. There’s a reason you’re drawn to horror films, and they’re not as far-fetched as you thought.

FBI data shows that four out of 10 homicides and six out of 10 rapes go unsolved, and this isn’t just down to shoddy police work or a failing system. Sometimes, there just is no rational explanation.

Strange things happen every day, and many of them are never reported. But then, many of them don’t end in horror. Some do though, and these are the terrifying true stories that have inspired countless horror movies and thrillers.

In Horror Stories: Terrifyingly Real Stories of True Horror & Chilling Murders, you’ll find cases that have left detectives flummoxed for centuries. You’ll discover:

  • Over 17 true stories that will convince you that horror movies are more than fiction
  • Key cases that have stumped detectives throughout history
  • The mystery of the Phantom Whistler
  • Why you should be wary of ouija boards
  • The tale of America’s first documented serial killer with a body count of over 200
  • The true story behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose
  • The disturbing truth about the cannibal who killed 21 people in 10 months
  • Why 800 pages of investigation caused police to suspect demonic possession

And much more.

If you thought possessed hotels, horrifying mass murders and creepy online forums came from the imaginations of screen writers, think again.

We tell stories because we want to make sense of the truth. Sometimes, though, the explanation defies rational thought.

Horror films portray our worst fears...but our worst fears are not fiction.

Get ready to delve into terrifyingly true tales of crime and horror, look over your shoulder. Are you really alone?

Read to fast

This book was read too fast. It did not give you the time to create a connection. Horror and suspense need build up. The speed and lack of emotion in the narrations just made this background noise. Most stories are we’l known with a few exceptions. With better narration this book might be worth it.

Marginal

Though the stories were interesting the delivery was much like an automized weather report. Marginal.

Not Horror Stories

Although interesting, these stories fall short of what I would consider true horror stories. The narrator was almost robotic in his telling of the stories lacking anything that remotely sounds like emotion.

Let a Little Chill Run Hop Your Spine...

I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This collection of short stories is less like a work of fiction, and more like the reporting of some real life happenings or tales that have become part of common folklore. These tales certainly make you realize that the world of the unknown is much more complex of what we might think. The stories of possession, the unexplainable, the gruesome, are all a vital and interesting part of this collection. The editorial quality of the book is excellent. I particularly like the fact that the author is not trying to convince the readers to believe in the phenomenons she describes, but states the fact as they happened and let you reach your own conclusion. The stories are very well narrated. If you are the apprehensive type, this audiobook might not be for you, but I didn't find any of the stories to be offensive or exceedingly scary.

I'm a big fan of real life Creepypastas, so this is right up my alley! Good narration and creepy stories that make you feel unsettled

An Alright Collection

This was an okay collection of real life horrors, some easily substantiated while others can only be speculated on due to being handed down. If you enjoy hearing this type of stories then you're sure to like this collection. The narration was done well.

Horror Stories. Terrifyingly real stories of true horror and crime

This book did exactly as I intended for it: I listened to a story about a crime while driving. The stories were interesting and short enough to hear the whole story without a lot of time invested into characters and plot lines.
The stories were entertaining but I already knew about 1/2 of them prior to this book.
If you are looking for decent short stories to entertain your commute times, this is a pretty good choice.
