About this listen

Lady Madeline Essex is the last of the unwed "ducklings" in her family - and by far the most outspoken. But when she boldly enters London's most notorious gaming house in search of fodder for her novel, even her sharp tongue can't save her from the horrible crime she stumbles upon there. As luck would have it, first on the scene is the last man she wants to see her vulnerable. The one man who could tempt her heart…

Christian Monteith, the new Earl of Gresham, isn't much for card rooms and gaming halls. But as a favor to his former commanding officer, he's investigating a gamester for espionage on the night that Maddie ventures in, looking more enticing than he's ever seen her.

Suddenly, his feelings for his friend aren't so friendly anymore. And when her curiosity brings the impetuous novelist to the attention of a madman, Christian will stop at nothing to protect her from a sinister plot that is far more dangerous than any stolen kiss.

sweet story about cousins and love

Love the strength of the cousins, and the real relationships they found with their men.

Great read!

Great trilogy have enjoyed every one of them. Great feminist perspective in an action romance and you don't even have to read them in order

Enjoyable book Great Narrating

What does Anne Flosnik bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Anne Flosnik is one of the best narrator's I have heard (and I have listened to 100's of audio books). She makes the characters come alive and its so easy to follow the story with her narration. I can't say enough about her talent. Wonderful. I have returned audio books in the past because of bad narrators. So, Anne is a delight.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but try to make it last.

Delightful Ending to the Triligy

This is another good romance-mystery and a nice end to the Ugly Duckling Trilogy. Madeline is the last of the "ducklings" and this book is just as good as the first two. There is romance, mystery, danger, intrigue, and suspense in this book. I really enjoy Anne Flosnik's voices as they really bring life to the books. If you are looking for a light romance with a good mystery then don't hesitate on this trilogy.

Good author

Manda Collins is a fine writer and I used to love her print books, but Flosnik is such a melodramatic narrator that I feel less interested if I have to listen to her mangle the story
