About this listen
The bestselling authors of The Good Widow deliver a modern, suspenseful twist on Groundhog Day that asks the question: How far are you willing to go to save the life of someone you love?
Dom is having a very bad day - one he literally can't escape.
When Dom bumps into Mia, his ex-fiancée whom he hasn't seen in almost a decade, he believes they've been given a second chance and asks her out. When Mia dies tragically on their date, Dom makes a desperate wish: to be given the chance to save her life. And when he wakes the next morning to the shock that she's alive, he thinks his wish may have been granted. But day after day, no matter what he changes about their time together, she still meets a terrible fate.
Dom frantically searches for answers to save his beloved Mia and rekindle their former love. But the further he digs, the more obsessed he becomes, making him realize that slowing down time may be the only way to see things clearly. As he's forced to confront the truth about himself and those he's closest to, Dom vows that he'll watch Mia die a thousand times if it means he can save her once.

Story
When their newly engaged kids ask all four divorced parents to meet each other over brunch, everyone RSVPs yes—secretly hoping someone at the table will get to the bottom of the bottomless mimosas fast enough to say what they’re all thinking: that this engagement, coming after a whirlwind romance between two people barely out of college, is too much too soon. But at that brunch it’s not the impulsive couple's decisions that end up under the microscope, as it turns out June, mother of the bride, and Amy, mother of the groom, certainly do know each other—they're ex-best-friends.

When Iris decides to move to New York to restart her life, she realizes she underestimated how big the Big Apple really is—all the nostalgic movies set in New York she’d watched with her mom while eating their special secret-recipe gelato didn’t quite do it justice. But Bobby, Iris’s best friend, isn’t about to let her hide away. He drags her to a famous autumn street fair in Little Italy, and as they walk through the food stalls, a little family-run gelateria catches her eye—could it be the same shop that’s in an old photo of her mother’s?

Story
I have three months to write the last book of my life. Three months to confess the details of that day, and how it changed everything for me. My name is Helena Ross. I've written 15 romance novels, 10 of which have become international best sellers. But this one isn't a romance, no happily ever after in place. This novel holds only the truth, which I have run away from for four years. The truth, which I have hidden from the police, from my loved ones, from the world.

Critic reviews
“Authors Fenton and Steinke have created a realistic look at the trauma that reliving the same events multiple times might cause a person as they try to come to terms with the impossible. They also explore the meaning of love, compatibility, and how a person might change—yet remain the same—over the course of a decade or even just a week. Their storytelling is on point, and each version is told from a new angle as Dom mentally works through the situation he’s in, trying to grapple with how he can become a better man. A well-told story that leaves some questions unanswered—but in a good way.” —Kirkus Reviews
“This has all the right ingredients for the perfect summer read—a great romance, a dash of magic, and truth bombs that are easy to devour.” —Mom Advice
“How to Save a Life is a roller-coaster ride. With a modern take on the Groundhog Day premise, Fenton and Steinke have created a heartfelt adventure of one man’s journey to save the life of the woman he loves. The suspense will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page. This is their best novel yet.” —Emily Giffin, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Something Borrowed and All We Ever Wanted

Not their best...
I’ve read most of their other books and really loved them. This one took a long while for me to get into it and not just find the main character whiny and annoying. I finally got into it half way through but I just didn’t like everyone as much as other books and I predicted one secret so there wasn’t surprise either.

An Utterly Agonizing Groundhog's Day
I've held on to this book for awhile and I am disappointed that I did because I thoroughly enjoyed it!! It was like a unique Groundhog's Day, over and over again, each one more excruciating than the last!
I've really only read mystery books by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke but I was not let down that this was not a mystery. I would jump head first into any other book they write.
At first, when the days kept repeating, I thought it was a bit of overkill, but once you get through the whole story, in all of it's agonizing glory, it leaves you questioning who really needed saving? The characters are thorough and ones you find yourself wanting to root for and the story is one of the most in depth stories that I've read in a long time. It leaves the reader questioning how far you would go for the one you love. And I definitely DID NOT see that ending coming!
How to Save a Life is narrated by Timothy Andrés Pabon and I felt like he narrated it absolutely beautifully.
Overall, this is a book that I would recommend a thousand times to anyone who will listen!
