Publisher's summary

'From the first time I saw them together I knew it felt wrong. I didn't like the way he touched her or the self-conscious way he played with Molly and Luke. Joanne saw none of it of course. So I did it to prove to her that she was wrong. I did it for us.'

Emily's instincts tell her that best friend Joanne's new boyfriend is bad news. Emily fears for Joanne. Fears for Joanne's children. But Joanne won't listen because she's in love. So Emily watches and waits...and then she makes a choice. But Emily has a past, and secrets, too. And is she really as good a friend to Joanne as she claims?

A stunning story!

What a great story. I'm actually sad that it's ended. A story about a woman who lost her marriage and relocated to a small apartment building. She became friends with another woman and her children. She distrusted the boyfriend and feared for the woman and her kids. This story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Never saw the ending unfolding that way. A definite plus to your psychological and mystery collections. I would give it more stars if I could. Loved it!! 😀😀😀

Well... I know what disconnected means now.

A very long he said she said with no big payoff.
Another listener had called this book "disconnected" in the review... I didn't really understand what it meant, but I do now. Several times I rewound 30 seconds because I thought I had missed something, but I hadn't. It wasn't an awful story but it wasn't good either, and I can't honestly recommend it

Kept me guessing but a little disconnected

This was a decent story and for the most part my interest held. The beginning is compelling but it is not what the book is about, it’s more background story so I was confused for a while when it transitioned in a different direction.
It’s one of those books where almost all of the action unfolds at the end, rather than hinted at throughout. Some things that ended up as minor parts of the story were initially so well detailed while some very significant things were barley delved into. Additionally, because side stories were not resolved, the events didn’t tie in strong enough. It did keep me guessing all the way through but mostly because I wasn’t sure which aspects were important. But as a whole, it was entertaining enough, I’m not sure I would enthusiastically recommend it to someone but it wasn’t a waste of credit.

A satisfying read

I’m easily bored by bad storytelling. This book kept me interested, and had a couple of twists I didn’t see coming. The narrator was quite good, and it was a satisfying read.
