About this listen

Within these pages are the musings, the revelations, the ruminations, and the reflections of the incomparable Larry Wilmore. Here, collected for the first time, all in one place, are his Black Thoughts. From why black weathermen make him feel happy (or sad) and why brothas don't see UFOs to his search for Black Jesus or his quest to replace "African-American" with "chocolate," Wilmore has finally relented, agreeing to share his unique (black) perspective. Soon, you too will have the ability to find racism in everything. Bring back the Shetland Negro and do away with Black History Month! After all, can twenty-eight days of trivia really make up for centuries of oppression? In Wilmore's own words, "I'd rather we got casinos!"©2009 Hardstone Productions, Inc. Funny. Enlightening. Good listen. What? You need 8 more words? I mean 5? Never mind. Oh, wait. Be sure to catch Lar on his podcast; Black on the Air.

Larry helps me with being white.

Enjoyable book with laugh out loud moments throughout the book. Some of the themes could have been less repetitive but overall an entertaining listen.

I think I'm smart, I'm pretty well educated, and socially aware. I just don't get the Wilmore angle. If the entire commentary is a send-up then okay I guess I see some fleeting value as a parody, nothing more. On the other hand, Wilmore seems to trade in gross stereotypes of a single race, which benefits no one, except Wilmore.

I'm not smart enough to understand Larry Wilmore

Approx 3hrs in length. Of no real substance, but humorous. Mostly thoughts on race relations from a mildly conservative Black (Larry would prefer the term Chocolate) perspective.

Brief, but funny.

Amusing and thought provoking definitely ahead of his time with his observation about race and still right on time with these thoughts. Wish he would write about this past election.

Keeping it a 100 before that was a thing

Larry did a great job reading it, but it's too short for the money. I was also hoping for something funny but also profound. I just found some of the essays silly.

Great performance but short

Black on the Air podcaster Larry Wilmore opines on the state of the nation. Very incisive and very funny.

Larry! Larry! Larry!

I always enjoy Wilmore's spots on The Daily Show. His mild take on racism has some unexpected reversals -- like the title, "I'd rather we got casinos". The bits in this book are in the same vein but most go on too long and lack punch. I would say it's amusing most of the time and funny only some of the time. His delivery is perfect though. He is an excellent narrator.

Some bits funny, some not

Great comedian with a good resume. This is snarky and you can see where he ran out of material towards the end of the book. The last chapter was just annoying.

Sputters towards the end
