Tom Keeler finds himself in the town of Promise, Indiana. He just needs to drop off a package, then he can get back to the Florida sunshine.
But nothing’s ever that simple. The package gets stolen; things get complicated.
Linda Cartwright’s a happily married woman, and then someone tried to kill her on her own front lawn.
Why would they do that? Good question.
Keeler’s interested, but Cartwright won’t talk about it. When Cartwright’s attacked a second time, Keeler begins to suspect that she’s in over her head. She’s a tough lady, but even tough nuts crack.
And it’s not only Cartwright. Bad things are happening to regular folk, all over the town of Promise.
Behind every bad deed are bad people.
And when bad people get murderous, Keeler takes it to the next level.

What bugged me was the section near the end when he was reading the lyrics to “El Paso” by Marty Robbins!
He should have familiarized himself to the music and rhythm of the song!
“I found a GOOD one, it looked like it COULD run.”
The rhyme is on GOOD, not “run”!
I’m not sure how any grown man could have grown up without ever hearing this song!
It’s a little thing but annoying.
I’ll listen to the next Jack Lively book if there is one anyway but this guy in no Scott Brick or Rene Auberjonois and won’t sway me to a book BECAUSE he’s the reader
He also made several other minor mistakes in Pronunciation so I’m suspicious now!
I love Jack Reacher but since Child is writing with his son, the books are falling a little short so Jack Lively has come along just in time!
I hope he keeps going!
A little thing!
