Years before they became crewmates on the U.S.S. Enterprise, Commander William Riker and ship's counsellor Deanna Troi had a tempestuous love affair on her home planet of Betazed. Now, as their passions have cooled, the two serve together as close friends. Yet the memories of what passed between them linger and Riker and Troi remain Imzadi, a powerful Betazoid term that describes the enduring bond they still share. On a delicate mission involving negotiations with an aggressive race called the Sindareen, Deanna mysteriously falls ill...and dies. But her death marks the start of an incredible adventure for Riker - an adventure that takes him across time, pits him against one of his closest friends, and forces him to choose between Starfleet's strictest rule and the one he calls Imzadi.

Great back story for Riker and Troi

The story relies heavily on the shock value of a civilization that prefers nakedness. Not sure if it is the writing or Frakes stilted narration, that makes this sound like it is a noir style story. It was not a bad book and even I can last three hours, but it is pretty costly for three hours of only so-so story. If you want to know the background on how Number One and Counselor Troi meet, than it is a must.
I loved Star Trek the Next Generation, but will hve to admit that Frakes character was my least favorite. His narration is very much like the way he played the character on the show. Each sentence is a statement and there is no flow from one sentence to another. If you loved is character for other than his looks, (which you can't see on audio), then you will love his narration.

If you could sum up Star Trek, The Next Generation in three words, what would they be?
Despite the few continuity errors with the show(since this book was originally released when season 5 of TNG was being made), Imzadi was actually pretty decent both as a novel and as a Star Trek novel. I've read some bad Star Wars novels so, as I am more of a Star Trek fan, I was expecting something along those lines. Still, I remembered seeing this book and wanted to check out the audio version. I was pleasantly surprised. It's not great, but it's pretty good. Frakes narrates excellently, and his few impressions of Jean-Luc Picard are funny.
This novel may not be for you if you are disinterested in romance. However, this may be a good romance novel for male Trek fans as this novel centers around Riker; I don't know of any other romance novels that come from a male perspective. I'm sure there are some but I've never heard of them. Overall, I could relate to Riker.
It's short and sweet, and I liked it.
The only bad part is the audio quality. Clearly, they got this off of some cassette tapes. It's still perfectly listenable, though, and the actual audiobook sounds slightly better than the sample(which sounds like it was recorded with a bar of soap). If you're not an audiophile then you'll have no problem.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Trek, The Next Generation?
I don't want to give too much away or give any specifics. Riker's interactions with the Betazoids and his developing relationship with Troi were the most memorable moments. What does Jonathan Frakes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
What's there not to like about the actor voicing the character that he plays on TV? This is so much more fun than just reading the book with some imaginary third-person voice.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed. I didn't cry. Some might cry but I'm not that type.Actually... not bad!
