About this listen

Seventeen-year-old Luther Pleasant is high school football's most wanted. Prestigious universities want him on their roster. NFL scouts want him as a potential first-round draft choice. Two women at school want him. And therein lies the problem.

One of them may be pregnant.

He's in love with Savannah Perry. He believes they'll be together forever, but forever can't begin until he reconciles his current situation and confronts the people and horrific situations that shaped who he is today. He leads two lives; one very public, the other private, but on the verge of being front and center. Will he make a path forward by confronting his demons or will life and circumstances catch up to him and ruin his plans with Savannah?

Sometimes Backward to Move Forward, Always

As long time Phoenix Perry fans, my wife and I were curious to discover what happened in the coatroom and what blurred lines could entangle a straight shooter like Savannah Perry. We knew Keith’s thrillers and Little Black Girl Lost dramas were filled with realistic twists and turns and hope this one smacks teens and young adults with a reality check.

If you’re new to Keith’s books, it’s more like you’re watching a good movie than simply reading a book. Between the diverse characters, emotionally charged wording and pop culture references you’ll not only see or hear the words but feel you’re in the movie; the Audible voice actor makes it even more realistic.

If you’re a couple in the mood for some fun, get really close reading this together. Grab some coffee and settle in for this wild ride.

PS: More on his movie reference T.A.P.S. can be found at the Keith Lee Johnson Cinema on his website. We also hope to soon see a YouTube playlist soundtrack for his song references.
