Publisher's summary

Brought to us by the Drabs, it was the last thing we expected. But the Drabs knew. They even fought a war over whether or not they should save us. In the end, it was decided that we were diseased insects who were unfit to breathe their air.

So they left the human race to die a miserable death of agonizing pain in a matter of months. Left us with no doctors or medicine. Their plan was to rid the earth of us and to take our home as their own.

What they never expected was the change that would come after the plague. We didn't all die off as they'd planned. Those under the age of twenty somehow managed to survive the disease.

Still human, but now something else. Something more powerful and more intuitive. Now possessed of magical powers and abilities beyond belief, we're still here on this earth, and we're not leaving.

Drabs take note and learn to be afraid. You've had a hundred years here on earth, but now your time here is done. Humanity isn't dead. Not by a long shot. We still have our soldiers and we have our conviction.

And we will win in the end. Whatever it takes. Whatever it costs. We won't allow you to take our planet from us. So count your days, Drabs.

Contains mature themes.

Can’t wait for the next book!

This is a fantastic start to a new world, and I can’t wait for the next book! I’m a fan of McQueen (Kenyon) worlds and characters, and it always takes me a minute to adjust to a new series. That said, by the end I was on the edge of my seat and excited to see what happens next. Black blood vs red blood and all have their hands dirty and clean. Great opening to a new world!

More please

Great story. I love Ms. Kenyon/McQueen’s writing and have followed her for years. This novella is no exception. I did think ‘the kiss’ was a lot premature and presumptuous. But still love the story and would love to see it turned to a full length novel.
On a side note…Sorry to hear about the tragedy of your divorce and the emotional trauma you suffered. Hope you are getting back in your feet. Stay out of Tennessee! Bad juju there for you.

Disappointed but not in the story.

I adore Sherrilyn and the story is wonderful! Cannot wait to hear what happens in the following volumes. However using ableist language is not acceptable to me. An Autistic meltdown is NEVER a tantrum! I would think she would know better! I have two Autistic children. We fight against so many saying their meltdowns are mere tantrums when they are not! Calling it a tantrum infers controls, there is no control in a meltdown! I expect this to be corrected and will be contacting her about this as well. This is unacceptable.
