About this listen

The order had been given. An invasion was launched. Then something went horribly wrong.

For years, the Zodarks plotted their revenge against the Republic. Spies infiltrated their colonies and eventually found their seat of power—Earth, located in a previously unknown system.

A plan was hatched, a force made ready. The Zodarks would unveil a superweapon that was sure to tip the balance of power back in their favor. Then the Zodarks learned of Murphy's Law—and their plans were never the same.

When a Republic peacekeeping mission to the Tully system, Serpentis, turned into a battle to liberate the planet from a surprise invasion by the Pharaonis, the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Orbital Assault Division went into action.

Afterward, they were an exhausted, beat-up force, looking forward to a hero's welcome and some much-needed R&R. But as the RNS Emerald City dropped out of slip space above Earth, they found themselves in the middle of a Zodark invasion of their home world.

Can a commodore overcome her past demons of a similar battle and rally what remains of the Republic Navy?

Will the Zodarks' new warship, the Nefantar's superweapon, alter the course of humanity?

The Rise of the Republic saga continues to unravel the mystery of the Humtars and the origins of humanity. What mysteries await at Lab Site X?

Thrilling and believable

This series stands apart from most space epics due to its meticulous research, solid footing on very real world concepts, and completely realistic and believable military core. If you get distracted or frustrated with magical and unrealistic stories about space empires, this series will be a very believable and exciting alternative to the standard.

Love the politics and military mixed together with a scientific team as well.

This series is excellent. Lots of great action, great characters, politics, military, science, and really interesting aliens. I’ve gone through all of these books really quickly. Very enjoyable.

Terrible

I've written some reviews about this series of books. While I enjoy the story arc and the scope of the plotline, the books themselves have some serious and confusing flaws. The books often seem to be ideas from the 60s, with brand names from the 2020s, and repeat many flaws over and over.

The narrator in the Kindle version of these books exaggerates all of these flaws. He mostly reads like he is reading to a class of 5th graders. His character voices are overly dramatic and considering this is a military series, those voices are completely out of place. Worse, he makes all women seem like tarts, even if they are admirals, and all men sounds like frat boys, even if they are aliens. Its repulsive.

The pacing is all wrong too. The narrator slows way down for dialogue, which is the weakest part of the books, and speeds up for narration.

Re hashed

Some of the earlier volumes were good. This was a re hash and really “ dragged on”, Narrator is very good.
