About this listen

After rebounding from a broken engagement and relinquishing her job in sports PR, the irrepressible Waverly Bryson has a new man, a new career, and a new lease on life. Her part-time gig as an advice columnist has proven to be as entertaining as it is affirming, and her fledgling greeting card line, Honey Notes, is off to a promising start. After a series of disastrous romantic rebounds, she has settled into a long-distance relationship with handsome Jake McIntyre. Things are certainly looking up… at least, until lingering emotional baggage threatens her love life and her best friends stun her with a pair of shocking announcements. Suddenly, Waverly is faced with being left behind by everyone she loves. And in true Waverly fashion, things must get comically worse before they can get better. It takes forming an unexpected new friendship with an elderly neighbor and meddling in the love lives of two of her coworkers to make “the American Bridget Jones” realize that although life - before and after thirty - never fails to be messy and unpredictable, friendship and love make it all worthwhile.

Very enjoyable

Not your typical romance story. The plot was good and the narrator was excellent. Highly recommend for an easy read / listen

Fantastic! Sharp Clever Hilarious Sassy Chic Lit

What did you love best about It's a Waverly Life?

*

As I listened to this book for a second time I thought I would skim through it to give a review. However, I was easily snagged in again by the great writing and narration.

It's a Waverley Life is smart, hilarious and very sassy. The relationships of Waverly to her coworkers, her boyfriend, her best friend, her dad and her friendly neighbor are all interesting, intertwine and work perfectly.

Waverley and her friends are at a point in their lives where they start to go in different directions: One is married and expecting, one is "empowered" in her promiscuity and then there is Waverley - a gossip columnist who is scared that her sometimes boyfriend may not stay her boyfriend anymore.

While this is Chic Lit, in my opinion, it touches on a few serious issues in a lighthearted and respectful way.

As Waverley begins to learn more about herself through her different relationships she begins to question and answer some of the views that she always had.

I would easily recommend this book to anyone. It is also easily rated five star in all three categories. Story, narration & overall. It is fantastic.

Notes: There there is an minimal talk about sex – six or seven lines about it. But other than that I have no warnings.

Credit worthy/$: As with most of my books, I took a chance on an unknown (to me) author and got this on sale. Having read it I say yes to credit worthiness and/or buy.

An enjoyable light read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Sure, the first book was pretty good. As is this one. Although I know a few friends who probably wouldn't like it. I think it's one of those books where if you have had some pretty wacky "What or how the heck did that just happen to me?" moments in your life and can laugh them off with some good friends, you'd probably enjoy this. Also I think it's probably geared more towards young woman even though the main character is 30 she does kinda act younger (nothing wrong with that)! So if you want a funny light read try this series!

What was one of the most memorable moments of It's a Waverly Life?

The TV interview was just crazy. I choked on my spit from gasping when I heard it. Ya that was crazy. Pretty sure I would have attacked the southern girl or passed out cold right there on national TV. Probably both.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Uh, the Waverly moments remind me of my mother and my own ditzy moments. It's a long standing inside joke in our family so ya. Very relatable for me.

Any additional comments?

This series would make a great TV show. It really isn't deep at all. A light read. You can't take it serious at all, but sometimes that's just what you need. I personally though it was a great addition to the first one and look forward to hearing the next one. NOTE: there are some VERY funny bits in this story. Watch where you listen to it at. I must have looked like a laughing crazy person a few times in crowded public places. XD

Fast love stunted growth

I felt the characters were in love with each other so quickly, but then not only neither one of them hinted or verbalized liking the other person, their actions drove each other away even further. Can’t explain these two characters any other way but to say their love expressions were inhibited. They did not say what they felt and then to fix her errors quickly, the heroine acted a bit crazy trying to track the hero to tell him in person how she truly felt. I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed reading it at the same time I saw so many faults with it. I know, I know. I sound retarded now, but I liked many moments especially some of her reader’s dating stories which made me laugh out loud. But then either of the main characters acted stupid or said something stupid that turned me off. If you purchase this book just expect it not to be a great read.

Comical - Warm - Bridget Jones-ish

Waverly is the kind of person who could be anyone’s good friend. She is kind and considerate; fun, witty, and a bit of a cross between Lucille Ball and Bridget Jones in terms of embarrassing situations in which she seems to find herself.

The second book in the “Waverly Bryson” series, by Maria Murmane and narrated by Julia Whelan is a delightful, light-hearted listen that I would recommend as credit worthy. Enjoy!

Great Series 2

Enjoyed the inter-change between the three young ladies. Julia Whelan did another great job of narration.

Waverly, like the cracker

Since we last saw Ms. Waverly Bryson, everything has been going her way – but don’t get your hopes up, because our self sabotaging female stereotype still has time to screw it all up! While I seem harsh, I will admit, I’ve listened to the whole series. I like something that is a bit mindless (lacks depth in plot) and is perfect for when I need a break from some of the other books I listen to.

I still find the narration frustrating and that takes a lot away from the story for me. This book touches on the harsh reality that as you get older, you friends create families and some will move away, and you may lose touch. Waverly takes it in stride (eventually) and pulls through in the end, as always.
