About this listen

An absorbing, highly entertaining novel about family secrets, The Never Never Sisters introduces you to the strong-willed and big-hearted Reinhardt women as they reunite one summer in New York. Gifted storyteller L. Alison Heller has written another witty and moving story that will captivate listeners and keep them guessing right up until the satisfying end.

Sometimes you just need to get away. Marriage counselor Paige Reinhardt is counting down the days to summer, eager to reconnect with her workaholic husband at their cozy rental cottage in the Hamptons. But soon a mysterious crisis at Dave's work ruins their getaway plans. Paige is still figuring out how to handle the unexplained chill in her marriage when her troubled sister suddenly returns after a two-decade silence. Now, instead of enjoying the lazy summer days along the ocean, Paige is navigating the rocky waters of a forgotten bond with her sister in the sweltering city heat.

As she attempts to dig deeper into Dave's work troubles and some long-held family secrets, Paige is shocked to discover how little she knows about the people closest to her. This summer, the self-proclaimed relationship expert will grapple with her biggest challenge yet: Is it worth risking your most precious relationships in order to find yourself?

Julia Whelan makes it worth the credit.

This book moves quite well through the first half. A good mystery is set up from the start: why the husband has been suspended from his work. In fact, this was the only thread that really kept me going because I couldn't guess the answer until the end. The "sister" relationship development was rather loose and, in retrospect, weak - not a standalone reason to be interested in or even finish the book.

I used a credit for this book to hear more of Julia Whelan. She is so skilled that I listen to just about anything she performs. However, when you strip out a lot of superfluous detail (especially in the last quarter of the book), the "meaty" portion of the book would take just half the time.

Narration by Julia Whelan a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ performance!

How does she do it? I bought this particular book mainly because of Julia Whelan and from the very beginning, she kept my attention. Not my usual genre, I was thrilled with this book, its estranged relationships, quirky characters, humor and surprises made this one a satisfying listen. Whelan’s unique ability to narrate all characters to perfection is a rare and admirable ability. There are a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. Author L. Alison Heller’s captivating story and Whelan’s magnificent narration is addicting and made it hard to take a break. Highly Recommended. Congratulations to Whelan and Heller for a magnificent collaboration and thank you for introducing me to a entirely different genre after five years with Audible. I want more from these two. Epic, I say. EPIC!!!
