About this listen

When your faith as you know it has been commodified, nationalized, scandalized, and rebranded beyond recognition, is it even possible to recover the "good" of Jesus from this cluster of epic proportions?

Writer and podcaster Erin Moon has questions, and this book is her open letter for anyone who feels iffy, conflicted, or just downright devastated by this disconnect. With empathy, insight, and the therapy of memes and a good laugh, Erin maps out not a rigid prescription but an open-hearted pathway for you to reclaim what you once loved about your faith home and light a match to the rest.

As it turns out, God is not afraid of your questions. To the contrary, the fullness of the Christian story is found not in a certainty checklist but a vision of a people who wrestle with God. This is the story to which Erin turns and guides you through, as you understand the good, bad, ugly, and just plain bizarre of your faith origins; find permission to lament, ask questions, and name pressure points; and make peace as you set your own new boundaries and rebuild.

Consider this your open invitation to get gut-level honest about where it started, and heart-level hopeful about where it can go from here.

Beautifully written- salve for the soul

This is a needed book for people who are struggling with what they've been taught all along but believe there's possibly a different way. For those who want to keep what sticks and burn the rest, and for those who aren't sure what they want to do with their faith, Erin is a gentle, non-judgmental guide for the journey. (Drink!)

Beyond the Binary

Thank you, Erin Moon! Exactly what I needed in this chapter of my journey (drink)!

Listening to Erin read this made the book even better! She boiled it down to the true heart of the Gospel, and it’s hard to misunderstand “love God and love others.” If nothing else makes sense, start there and stay there!

Phenomenal!!!!

This entire book is a balm to my soul. I’ve spent so much time deconstructing and figuring out where I go from here. Erin helped me with questions I have grappled with for years. Immediately after finishing the book I listened to it again. Yes, it’s worth it. Even you are not struggling with your faith, you know someone who is. This book can help to give you a sense of what someone is going through and how to walk beside them. If you are struggling, please know you are not alone. Listen with as much attention as you can muster. You will not regret it.

Honest, Hopeful

Wow! I listened to this book in one day. So honest and real. It gives us permission to wrestle with God so that our faith is honest and sincere instead of performative. I have been so discouraged by the Evangelical church. But this book has given me hope for a new path. Thank you , Erin.

Authentic Brilliance!

Erin Hicks Moon has just hit a Grand Slam Home Run in the World Series! This book is full of her real and raw story of the journey (drink) of her faith and all of the challenges and struggles she faced and still faces. I will be giving this book to so many people that wrestle with questions and aren’t satisfied with curated answers. She presents a robust approach to a faith that welcomes mystery and embraces doubt as a pathway to grace and peace. I can’t wait to listen to it again with a book club and talk out more of the authentic brilliance of this book with others. You are beloved above all else - that is the heart of the book.
