A Chaos Space Marines Novel

The Horus Heresy is over. The World Eaters are leaderless and their greatest hero is in a coma. Poised on the brink of destruction, the Legion needs Khârn—but will his awakening save them or spell their doom?

Listen because...Khârn is one of the most iconic figures in the Warhammer 40,000 setting, the epitome of Khorne's mortal servants. In this story, you can witness his transition from the World Eaters Captain of the Horus Heresy to the blood-mad betrayer feared across the 41st Millennium.

The story: the Horus Heresy is over. The traitor Legions have scattered, fleeing the wrath of a vengeful Imperium. The World Eaters are leaderless, their primarch missing and their greatest hero, Khârn, locked in a coma. The surviving Legionaries have turned upon themselves, their Butcher's Nails driving them to ever-greater acts of berserk savagery. Poised on the brink of destruction, the Legion needs direction. It needs someone to rally around. It needs Khârn—but will his awakening save them, or doom them entirely?

Written by Anthony Reynolds. Read by Richard Reed.

A misunderstood story

People are downrating this because they say Kharn doesn't show up until halfway through the story. While this is true, that isn't the point of the story. The story is really about the beginning of the end of the World Eaters as a unified Legion. And while Kharn is unconscious for most of the story, when he finally wakes up, he makes up for the absence by winning with charisma. I recommend this.

Unexpected

This book isn't so much a Karn book as many would have you believe so much as it is a book that features Karn in about 6 scenes. I enjoyed the story and it was presented with clarity, but am disappointed that this was not in fact what was recommended.

The Final Moments of Sanity

Kharn is by far one of tge few Chaos characters you feel bad for. This novel focuses on what he and the World Eaters experience before the Betrayl of Kharn and who he gets his name. It is a final glimpse at a warrior whom before his fall was an honorable and skilled warrior. I recommend this for lovers of 40k lore and want a glimpse of a character before a major turn in their arc.

Better than I thought it would be

Enjoyed the characters and the narration was pretty good too, Kharn proved to be more clever than previous stories I've heard him in.

Great post heresy novel for the 12th legion

A great look at the 12th legion shortly after the scouring, covering Kharns resurrection after his defeat by Sigusmund.

Great look at the 12th legion

A good look at what happens after the siege of Terra.
You get a look inside the World Eaters, before they have succumbed entirely to the worship of Khorn.

Fantastic book about the reunification of the XII Legion

Wow, did I love listening to this audiobook so much so that I have re-listened to it twice already. It’s hard to describe without spoiling the narrative, but if you are a fan of the World Eaters or of Khârn you will absolutely love this fiction

va work is incredible

love how pronounced his accent for the world eaters is and how he's able modify it to give more personality to each individual
the story is also really good and a must read in my opinion
(world eaters fan bias)
the build up to the big events of the story and the ending is really cool
would say that some elements are slightly esoteric by them implying more importance to things that otherwise wouldn't matter too much at face value.such as call outs and certain planets and the like but that's kinda just the nature of 40k novels
with lore so massive and bloated, small call-outs might go completely over someone's head if they're not informed
kinda a problem with 40k books
not to many you can read out of context
this one being kinda heavy on the context side of things
as a 40k novels, fantastic but as a stand alone novel, about a 7/10 might be able to push to an 8 with the voice acting being some of if not the best I've heard
(except for women;not to many good male voice acting for women)
