About this listen
It's one of the stealthiest, most dangerous underwater warships ever built - and it's about to set off World War III. Silent at less than five knots and capable of a massive nuclear warhead punch, it's the 240-foot Russian Kilo-class submarine.
Strapped for hard cash, the Russians have produced 10 new Kilos for Beijing. The Chinese have already received three of the subs, and now the last seven are ready to be delivered - a code-red situation the Pentagon must avert. Armed with a full strike force of Kilos, China can cripple American interests, shatter the balance of power, and successfully achieve the unthinkable in the Pacific Rim. But not if the newly appointed national security advisor, wily Texas admiral Arnold Morgan, can stop them - using the navy's deadliest covert forces.
In a breathtaking race against time, a team of Navy SEALs penetrates deep inside the remote waters of Northern Russia on a daring mission of destruction. And in the icy darkness of the North Atlantic, a brave US captain takes his 7,000-ton nuclear vessel on a hair-raising trip beneath the polar ice cap to head off a powerful Russian cordon determined to transport the Kilos at any cost. Horns locked in a tense game of geomilitary survival, each of the world's three most powerful nations knows that one mistake will mean all-out war.

Story
The men on the SS Marine Electric sailed into a storm in February 1983 not knowing that they would make history - at a great cost in lives. Just three men survived the wreck of the Marine Electric off the shores of Virginia and they found that their struggle had just begun once they got back to shore. Blamed for the wreck, they fought back and broke a code of silence that had covered up sloppy ship inspections for decades and revealed the flaws in old World War II rust buckets that were still at sea long past their functional lifetime.

Story
This memoir of James Stavridis' two years in command of the destroyer USS Barry (DDG-52) reveals the human side of what it is like to be in charge of a warship for the first time and in the midst of international crisis. From Haiti to the Balkans to the Arabian Gulf, the Barry was involved in operations throughout the world during his 1993-1995 tour. Drawing on daily journals he kept for the entire period, the author reveals the complex nature of those deployments in a 'real time' context and describes life on board the Barry and liberty ashore for sailors and officers alike.

Story
Admittedly small and vulnerable, PT boats were, nevertheless, fast - the fastest craft on the water during World War II - and Dick Keresey's account of these tough little fighters throws new light on their contributions to the war effort. As captain of PT 105, the author was in the same battle as John F. Kennedy when Kennedy's PT 109 was rammed and sunk. The famous incident, Keresey says, has often been described inaccurately and the PT boat depicted as unreliable and ineffective.

Today's Fiction, Tomorrow's Reality!
Patrick Robinson has done it again! From the moment that I started listening to this book, I only stopped to eat and sleep. The plot of this book is so close to reality, it's scary. With China building up it's presence in the South China Sea, this book could be happening now. Sit back and hang on, because this book will keep you on the edge of your seat.

What did you love best about Kilo Class?
Though it was written 20 years ago, it all seems possible in today's political climate.
Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

This book is a solid BUY! Fun listen.
I’m 50/50 on good book purchases. Sometimes I wonder why people post a good review on an overly character building story that is empty of the meat of a story. This is not the case as this book balances characters and action. I love the mix of political pride vs what the military can an will do. I enjoyed this book cover to cover.

The story weaves its self around a bit, but as usual, all falls into place and make sense.
George is the best at his voices and helps the listener know the characters. Admiral Arnold Morgan is the glue to the book.

Captivating with plenty of action. Multiple storie lines within the book led by well well-built, towering characters. And just when you thought everything has been accomplished and the book is going to end the author takes you deep for another mission.

Intense!!!!!!!
I wasn't sure how the author would tie the story together but he did. It was intense and fun. I debated how believable the story was but listening to commentary at the end made me rethink the whole story and wonder how much is based on reality. Well done and great performance. Looking forward to the next one.
