About this listen

A Great War is coming, and it will engulf the Imperium of Man. The Space Marines of the Alpha Legion, the last and most secretive of all the Astartes brotherhoods, arrive on a heathen world to support the Imperial Army in a pacification campaign against strange and uncanny forces. But what drives the Alpha Legion? Can they be trusted, and what side will they choose when the Great War begins? Loyalties are put to the test, and the cunning schemes of an alien intelligence revealed, as the fate of mankind hangs in the balance.

This is a great book, and my favorite of the HH so far. I had to buy some models just so I can start an Alpha Legion army in 40K.

Best of the Horus Heresy (so far)

Legion is an espionage book, I enjoyed it, but they could have used more fights with cool alpha legion advanced tech or stealth actions.

Very enjoyable even without too much action.

A great book that gives you an understanding of the Alpha Legion and their way of operating.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. This book is quite simply amazing. Dan Abnett absolutely nails the feel of the Alpha Legion, and how they are so very different than the other Legions. The last line is pure gold.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's a toss up between Alpharius, Alpharius and Alpharius

What about David Timson’s performance did you like?

I really liked the accents he did for the various characters. Alpharius, Bronzi and Soneka especially have really distinct, flavourful portrayals

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

"For the Emperor"

No more needs said. As I write this I am getting goosebumps remembering it.

Any additional comments?

I am midway through Battle for the Abyss as I write this review, having read all of the previous installments, and this is one of the very best so far. Absolutely thrilling read.

At first I was bored and didn't care much for the story. But after it paints you a picture. It leads the reader to amazing events and plot points!
