About this listen

Alone in an empty house, Lucy tries to imagine the lives of her two young children. They have been gone for seven years, and she is tormented by the role she played in that heartbreaking loss. You can hardly see a glimpse of the sexy, edgy woman she used to be. Back then, she was a magnet for men like Matt, who loved her beyond reason, and Griffin, who wouldn't let go but always left her wanting more. Now the lies they told and the choices they made have come to haunt all three of them.

With shattering turns, Lies You Wanted to Hear explores the way good people talk themselves into doing terrible, unthinkable things. What happens when we come to believe our own lies? And what price must we pay for our mistakes?

A searing story that will leave you wondering what choices you would make, Lies You Wanted to Hear is a stunning debut.

Absolutely Awful Male Narrator

The story was good, not one of the characters was at all likeable which was difficult but overall good book. Andy Ingalls was the absolute worst narrator I've heard in my many years of audio books-he sounded like he needed to be plugged in paired with a lisp I had to force myself to finish the book. I will flag anything he does going forward to avoid the pain again.

Poor ending <br />

I was very disappointed with the ending of the story. It leaves you wondering with really no closure.

Disappointing Ending

I found the male narrator's voice kind of annoying, but the story was good and it hit a nerve with me when it took an unexpected turn in the storyline. However, the ending felt like he just didn't know how to end it. It was disappointing and I was left feeling like the story was left hanging. As a writer myself, I can think of 10 different endings that would have been better.

Could have been (5) Stars

Where does Lies You Wanted to Hear rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a good story and half of an excellent audio book. Why half ? The male narrator was so flat and monotone that it distracted from the story. However, the female narrator was wonderful. In switching between reading and listening ( with Whispersync ) I definitely felt this story had more emotional impact as an audiobook.

The ending falls flat

It's a shame the book had such a weak ending because the heart of the story was so delicate and intricately woven into the fabric of the book.

As I was reading this book, I realized this is one of the only books I've read where I haven't necessarily liked a particular character. In this book, both characters are rather crazy, but in separate ways.

It reminded me a bit of gone girl, but a little more fluffy and involving the two children of the parents.

As you read the book, it makes you more cognizant of how as humans sometimes we hear what we want to hear and not what is actually being said as well as, how one little lie can completely spin out of control.

Not a bad read.

The story starts off slow and typical. Both characters are unlikable and their relationship is too real in the sense that at times relationships are built around what one wants to see rather than each other's real needs. I had trouble with the extreme of their decisions but appreciate the author's effort in attempting to display an unbiased perspective from both sides of the story. Towards the end you can see that bias leaning towards one side though as he makes you dig deeper into the real cause of their actions. The ending seemed to come abruptly and left me wishing he would have ended it with Lucy rather than Matt, but that's just me.

Slow but good.

I guess I expected more from the story somehow. It was really slow at parts but it wasn’t a bad book. Not one I would recommend to someone looking for a great book.

Wow narrator

Oh wow! The male narrator here...I just couldn't! I barely finished the book...by the end of the book, I was annoyed.
