About this listen

Francesca "Franki" Amato is a straight-shooting rookie cop in Austin, Texas, until an embarrassing 911 call prompts her to take a job at her best friend’s PI agency in New Orleans. But Franki soon learns that solving crime in The Big Easy is no Bourbon Street party. Case in point, her first investigation involves the murder of a beautiful boutique manager who was strangled with a cheap yellow scarf, and her primary suspect is her client. When Franki’s not on the clock, she hopes to get cozy with a handsome bank executive named Bradley, but her meddlesome Sicilian nonna has other ideas about who she should date. As Mardi Gras approaches and the boutique mystery deepens, Franki must decipher the odd ramblings of a voodoo priestess, or she could end up single - and the next strangling victim.

🔮N O L A!

Overall, this is a fun, lighthearted mystery with lots of comedy.
I really enjoyed the narrator's voice KUDOS MADELINE! Overall, I enjoyed the book.

The only part of the story that I didn’t like was her nosy overbearing grandmother! Uhh sick! She kept trying to marry off her granddaughter Franki. Wayyyy too patriarchal for me folks! Even in jest - its beyond the pale how pushy Franki's family is!!!! (Mom, Dad and Granny!)

I thought it was sickening and in import taste. I don’t like books with patriarchal tones!!
The main character needed to tell grandma to F off… and never call her again. Granny is a crazy Bee-otch!!!. The grandmother was so rude to her, calling her names and belittling her. UHHH! Big turn off! Chiudi la bocca!
Nonna needs to be put in her place once and for all.

Besides the crazy grandmother, I enjoyed the story...good comedy / mystery!
I'm excited to discover more of Franki's journey in NOLA!!!

~Laissez les bons temps rouler mystery fans!

Italian cop turns NOLA Private Eye... oh the adventures

I have read Traci Andrighetti’s other series. This was my first Franki Amato Mystery and it did not disappoint. After getting nowhere as a police officer in Texas and catching her boyfriend cheating, Franki abruptly decides to move to New Orleans to join her best friend’s PI firm. The first big case the ladies get is a murder. A high end store manager was strangled and her boyfriend is trying to clear his name. He hires the ladies to prove he didn’t kill Jessica Evans. The clues lead Franki and Veronica to another murder overseas. In between solving crimes, Franki also has to deal with her incredibly traditional and overbearing Italian family, as well as her former stripper landlord. The only concern her parents and grandmother have is that she needs a boyfriend so she can be free of spinster-hood. Even from Texas, her Italian family makes sure to hysterical interfere. There were so many laugh out loud moments, especially with Franks’s family. They remind me a lot of my family... The store has twists and turns and a lot of comic relief. Absolutely loved it! Can’t wait for the next one.

Maybe for your 20’s

It’s a nice enough listen but the plot is a bit predictable-maybe aimed at someone a bit younger than me.

Nice first in new series

Fun first book in a new series. I am sure this will be a big hit. It has all the goodies. Female PI's, a little romance, fast paced never boring story line. Add a dog and a lot of humor and you have a recipe for success. Madeline Mrozek does a great job of narrating this book. Will be waiting for the next adventure.

Characters!

PI, ex-cop, NOLA, stripper, stress buster, humor, no gratuitous erotica,

What's not to like? Franki really wanted to be a cop, but her mentor was a sleazebag and her lover seemed to prefer lady wrestlers, so she packed up and left Texas for NOLA and her best friend's PI agency. The smothering Italian family had her phone number, though. The verbal humor is great, but the situational humor is guaranteed to have you snorting your caffeine! The publisher's blurb gives hints, but can't really do justice to things like the eccentric ex-stripper who still dresses for pole dancing, or some of the antics the characters get up to. A fun escape read!
I had the ebook, but forgot about it until I got the audio. Glad I waited, because Madeline Mrozek gave an absolutely stellar performance! She really enhances any book that she narrates.

Limoncello Yellow -Terrific!

Also read this book in the past. I enjoyed the Audible version as well because it brought out parts of the book that I didn't remember or focus on when I read the book. The story is great as well as the narrator, Madeline Mrozek, who did a great job with the different characters personalities. Looking forward to future audio books from Traci Andrighetti!
