Character growth!

By the middle of book 3 I want to shoot Lowell, what a giant dick. I was fine with his bad attitude at first but the author apparently forgot about his character growth. Every other character in the books develop over time but not Lowell he just keeps carrying that giant chip on his shoulder the whole time and it gets REALLY old.
